Description
This position is responsible for Industrial Hygiene (IH) subject matter expertise and support services under the Site Occupational Medical Contractor (SOMC) at the Hanford U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Site. This includes supporting the SOCM, other Hanford Site contractors, and the DOE for evaluation of workplace exposures to facilitate integration of the IH and medical surveillance programs.
Responsibilities:

• Maintain a comprehensive Industrial Hygiene program to protect workers from exposure to chemical and physical hazards in the workplace. Identify and mitigate hazards as required by 10 CFR 851 and associated regulatory and consensus standards.
• Assist with managing the written Hazard Communication (HAZCOM) program.
• Anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace hazards (chemical, biological, ergonomic, and physical agents).
• Adequately identify and control hazards using the hierarchy of controls per 10 CFR 851.22 Hazard Prevention and Abatement.
• Provide industrial hygiene support to the DOE, contractors, and others as requested.
• Assist with incorporating protective health measures in new equipment, new work procedures, emergency response protocols, and facilities.
• Participate in investigations, surveys, studies, reviews, assessments, and exposure monitoring to assist with advice to identify, evaluate, and control potential chemical, physical, or biological hazards in the work environment that may cause illness, injury, disease, or impaired well-being.
• Assist with responding to potential exposure events and investigation of workforce complaints of potential workplace hazards; coordinate, where appropriate, with the affected employees and the appropriate organizations to resolve issues.
• Provide guidance and recommendations concerning the selection, use, maintenance, and control of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ensure that individual exposure records to chemical substances or physical agents are filed in the medical records to facilitate a robust Medical Surveillance Program.
• Provide expert consultation services in heat stress prevention and physiological monitoring and perform heat stress assessments as requested.
• Oversee and facilitate scientific data acquisition, processing, and analysis.
• Participate in industrial hygiene activities of the Special Emphasis Programs (Beryllium and Legacy Health).
• Work closely with medical personnel and epidemiologist.
• Serve on assessment or investigation teams as appropriate, serve on committees and teams as appropriate.
• Participate in the completion of the Beryllium Affected Worker Registry (BAWR) twice a year for the ORISE/DOE
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
Education/Experience
Required:

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, or other relevant field.
• The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) shall be certified by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (now part of the Board for Global EHS Credentialing).
• Industrial hygiene experience in a chemical/D&D/nuclear industrial setting.
• Experience in evaluating workplace environments with potential for exposure to chemical substances/mixtures.

Desired:

• DOE Hanford site experience.
• Possess skills, knowledge, and experience to provide assistance in the design, performance, controls, and/or interpretation of epidemiological studies and physical agents (including health impacts).
• Knowledge and experience in the evaluation of potential beryllium exposure and controls.
• Radiation Safety experience and training.
• Experience working in an Occupational Medicine Clinic.
• Experience supervising staff supporting industrial hygiene initiatives.

Salary Description
$80,000 - $100,000 commensurate with experience
