Job Summary
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) - Division of State Schools is recruiting for an IEP & Compliance Specialist. Under the supervision of the Support Services Manager, the IEP & Compliance Specialist serves as the liaison between the three State Schools (Atlanta Area School for the Deaf, Georgia Academy for the Blind, and Georgia School for the Deaf) and the GaDOE's Division for Special Education Services and Supports. Travel will be required. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Description of Duties
- Serve as the liaison between the three State Schools and the GaDOE's Division for Special Education Services and Supports
- Coordinate and facilitate effective communication and collaboration between the three State Schools and the Division for Special Education Services and Supports
- Collaboratively working with and supporting the three State Schools in ensuring compliance with completing tasks and initiatives by deadlines established by the Division for Special Education Services and Supports
- Support the three State Schools in ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to the Division for Special Education Services and Supports
- Collaborate with stakeholders within the three State Schools to develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness related to completing projects and assignments involving working with the Division for Special Education Services and Supports
- Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for students
- Monitor records and procedures within the State Schools for compliance with federal and state regulations
- Develop and implement fidelity measures to ensure appropriate implementation of accommodations/modifications and specialized instruction
- Support special education specific data collection for required state and federal reporting, including but not limited to FTE, Student Record, and Postsecondary Surveys
- Support the State Schools in executing the established process for consistently monitoring the progress of students' academic and behavioral interventions
- Provide guidance to the State Schools on appropriate assistive technology
- Provide technical assistance and professional learning to State Schools staff regarding special education
- Collaborate effectively with staff in other Central Office Units (e.g., Operations, Curriculum & Instruction, Business Office, and Outreach) to support the three State Schools
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:
- Work five years (5) or more years of experience as a Special Education Administrator in a public school district (LEA) or state agency (SEA)
- Have supervision experience with educational programs for students with sensory impairments (E.g., hearing, vision, speech-language)
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Federal, and State regulations regarding the education of students (3-21 years of age) with disabilities
- Have supervisory experience in the implementation and monitoring of programmatic activities to support Federal and State established targets for children with disabilities
- Have knowledge and experience of Special Education Due Process Procedures
- Have knowledge and experience with special education funding (IDEA and State allocations)
- Work experience with leading or participating on GaDOE Cross Functional Monitoring practices and procedures
- Work experience with the development and implementation of special education improvement plans
- Work experience in developing Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities requiring specialized instruction and/or supports
- Possess knowledge and experience with assistive technology for educational settings
- Possess knowledge of PBIS and MTSS theories and practices
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL)
- Possess a strong command of written English
