This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a Test Instrumentation engineer supporting the Integration and Test team, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.
Lunar Permanence is Blue Origin's team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). Our Lunar Permanence team is developing our Lunar Pathfinder mission will demonstrate the lander's core capabilities - including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture - on an early New Glenn flight.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
Responsibilities:

  • Own the Test Instrumentation solutions for Lunar Permanence flight hardware and test articles
  • Work closely with responsible engineers, test engineers, mission operations, and other functional groups to develop instrumentation solutions
  • Identify types of sensors based on test requirements
  • Identify data acquisition systems for reading and storing test sensor data
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians to install sensors and route harnesses
  • Configure and check out data acquisition and instrumentation systems
  • Troubleshoot issues and anomalies that arise during testing
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Have frequent inter-organizational and customer interactions on difficult technical issues
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre- and post-test briefings, and post-test reviews.
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics, or related technical discipline
  • Typically 5+ years of applicable experience
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with space vehicle component, subsystem, or integrated vehicle testing including environmental testing such as thermal vacuum, thermal balance, vibration, acoustics, shock, EMI/EMC
  • Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Understands/experience with hazardous operations
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language)
