PURPOSE OF JOB:
Teach Spanish to students in a public, secondary school by adhering to the purpose of the world language department at KCPS and by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities as an instructor in world languages.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans instruction to achieve learning targets based on the World Readiness standards from ACTFL and the IB program.
- Creates student learning objectives that are specific, measurable, attainable, and equitable.
- Monitors student progress in all three (3) communicative modes (interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational) on a consistent basis.
- Incorporates study of authentic literature into curriculum.
- Utilizes students' backgrounds, student interests, and student voice to tailor learning experiences.
- Provides students with opportunities to produce language through real-world applications and engaging activities.
- Facilitates the exposure to cultural experiences within and outside the classroom.
- Communicates exclusively in Spanish, using comprehensible input strategies.
- Models classroom routines that reflect practices of Spanish-speaking cultures.
- Provides a rich and stimulating learning environment that incorporates authentic resources.
- Equips students with strategies that enable them to stay in the target language.
- Uses a variety of strategies to guide students in developing critical thinking skills.
- Communicates with parents to discuss student progress and challenges.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher professional development workshops.
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education from four-year college or university.
- Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate Spanish K-12.
- Background experience and/or knowledge in the subject area and the IB program.
- Demonstrate high or native proficiency in Spanish.
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's Degree or Higher in Spanish, Spanish Literature or Linguistics.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 10 month 8 hours per day; 5 days/week; 185 work days
