The Opportunity
The foundation is in search of a Human Resources Manager to serve as a strategic business partner and a key member of the HR leadership team. In this newly created role, you will be responsible for leading the Learning & Development, Talent Management, and Employee Engagement functions within the foundation, as well as serving as an HR Business Partner in support of key groups in the organization. As a member of our 5-person Human Resources team, you will collaborate with us on various aspects of HR including recruiting, employee relations, performance management and other department initiatives.
This position reports to our Director of Human Resources and Head of People, and is based at our main office in Palo Alto, CA. Under the foundation’s residency policy and hybrid work arrangements, you must reside within a reasonable driving distance of the foundation’s Palo Alto office, and you will be expected to work onsite 1-2 days a week, the weeks of our May and November board meetings, and on periodic occasions throughout the year when foundation business needs require.
In This Role You Will:
Lead the Learning and Development function
- Implement the foundation’s professional development program and oversee its professional development benefit; serve as a resource for employees seeking professional development opportunities, including training, mentorship and coaching.
- Proactively assess needs and implement strategies to improve effectiveness in areas such as management and leadership, communication, employee development, performance management, foundation culture and values.
- Design and implement learning and development programs and monitor results to maximize impact and effectiveness.
- Work with colleagues and external partners to design and deliver programs aimed at increasing staff knowledge, skill, and attributes.
Serve as an HR Business Partner
- Be a trusted advisor to foundation leaders, partnering with them and providing 1:1 coaching as it pertains to their teams and the full employee life cycle.
- Partner with senior leaders to develop and execute both a short- and long-term People strategy that directly supports and enables the foundation’s objectives.
- Collaborate with the recruiting manager and foundation leaders to evaluate hiring needs and headcount planning.
- Be a resource for all foundation employees for any HR related activities.
- Support and promote the foundation and colleagues through commitment to enhancing the foundation’s considerations of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
Design Talent Management strategies
- Develop and implement talent management strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent.
- Identify and develop the skills and capabilities needed to meet the organization's strategic goals.
Lead Employee Engagement efforts
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure high levels of employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Plan and oversee employee events, including our semi-annual 3-day all-staff gatherings, external career speakers and alumni connection events.
- Work with managers to create and maintain a positive and supportive work environment where employees feel valued and respected.
- Develop and implement recognition programs to recognize employees for their contributions.
- Monitor employee engagement metrics and adjust strategies as needed.
What You Bring to the Foundation:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or other related field preferred.
- 8+ years relevant work experience preferred.
- PHR certification highly desired.
- Advanced knowledge of and experience in learning and development and talent management.
- Advanced knowledge of HR practices and policies such as legal, onboarding, organizational development, strategy development, advanced knowledge of HRIS technologies.
- Proven success in partnering with senior leaders.
Competencies

The Moore Foundation provides a generous total compensation package that includes a competitive salary and wide range of benefits to support your life, health, and well-being.
The salary range for this position is between $190,000 and $246,000 per year. Our job titles and salary ranges may span more than one career level, and the salary offered to a candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, job related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees, and our practice of upholding salary equity within the foundation.
