Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Human Resource Generalist based in our New York office. As we continue to grow, we seek a driven, passionate, and customer service-focused Human Resource professional to join our dynamic business-facing HR team.
As part of the North American and the broader global HR team, this role will be responsible for various HR generalist and administrative activities, including coordinating benefits and payroll, supporting recruitment activities, managing teammate on-boarding requirements, leaves management, as well as data reporting and analysis. The generalist will be a point of contact for teammate questions on various issues and act as our team’s liaison with our providers. This is an exciting growth opportunity to use and develop your skills in the HR function.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- You will be our teammates' first point of call for all HR queries
- Coordinate all aspects of our Benefits program for our North American teammates, including:
- Help manage benefits changes for teammates through ADP.
- Assist with teammate questions and concerns on benefits (health, dental, disability, life, and AD&D & 401K coverages)
- Act as a liaison between teammates and benefit carriers: help resolve issues, get coverage clarification, and escalate as appropriate
- Maintain HR electronic files within ADP
- Manage and track all leave of absences (LOA’s)
- Provide support for team member onboarding
- Assist with teammate files
- Partner with our HR team and hiring managers with recruitment activities including offer letter creation and systems updates when offers are accepted
- Manage the background screening process
- Manage I-9 process
- Assist with the maintenance and upkeep of our Company Intranet page
- Assist with research and implementation of new Federal or State employment regulations
- Work on strategic regional and global HR projects.
- Supporting a growing company with additional responsibilities
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- 2-3 + years of hands-on Human Resources generalist/ HR administrative experience
- Customer service experience preferred
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now or other HRIS systems preferred
- High Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Teams, and internet applications
- Highly self-motivated with customer service and results orientation
- Excellent administrative and organizational skills
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, professionalism with sound judgment
- Proactive and highly attentive to details

The base salary range for this position is from $65 - 75K along with annual bonus eligibility; a candidate’s salary is determined by their relevant skills and experience. We value our teammates – both their capabilities and character – as demonstrated by our amazing culture.
