Job description

Position Summary:

As the first-line Human Resources support to TCAT and the HR Department, this position is an integral part of the overall day-to-day operation to provide information and guidance to managers/supervisors and employees. This position will handle a variety of HR-related services including, but not limited to, benefits, employee relations, training, data management/reporting, onboarding, compliance and payroll. The successful HR Generalist will be professional, collaborative, able to communicate with tact and diplomacy, and handle highly sensitive and confidential information. This position reports to the Manager of People Operations.

Responsibilities:

The HR Generalist will work closely with all positions within the HR Department on a daily basis to ensure the successful delivery of HR services in a collaborative and team-oriented setting. This position focuses on the following subject areas:

Employee/Labor Relations

  • As liaison to union representatives and union employees, become knowledgeable of current collective bargaining agreement. Provides guidance, monitors and ensures supervisors follow contract language related to hours, wages, attendance, performance, corrective actions and working conditions. Alerts HR Department team members to patterns or related concerns. Updates Corrective Action Log and runs monthly reports for union, seniority, etc.
  • Serves as initial contact and liaison for intake and assessment of employee concerns. Reviews workplace incident reports for completeness, records in Incident Report log, and refers report to Manager of People Operations. May be tasked to investigate concerns/incidents following prescribed HR procedures.
  • Fosters diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies to support a positive working environment that aids the organization in being better every day.
  • Actively promotes and supports a safe and respectful work environment encompassing open communications, fairness, and respect.
  • Assists departments in activities, training, and relationship building to encourage supervisors/managers to know, develop, inspire, involve, and recognize employees.

Benefits

        • Responsible for assisting with the delivery of third-party benefits, answers questions from employees/supervisors including claims resolution, eligibility, and change requests.
  • Manages monthly reconciliation of benefits and works directly with Accounting to ensure bills are paid in a timely manner.
  • Oversees the annual Open Enrollment process including disseminating appropriate information and meeting with employees. Handles questions from employees and works with broker to resolve issues. Prepares annual benefit summaries and ensures current documents are uploaded to the HRIS system for new hire orientation.
  • Ensures Benefit System is updated by auditing system with HR/Payroll Assistant.
  • Coordinate leave management process, including FMLA, STD, LTD, WC, PFL and LOA. Work collaboratively with other HR and managers in supporting employees and TCAT requirements.

HRIS/Data Management/Payroll

  • Primary back-up to HR/Payroll Assistant including processing bi-weekly payroll and employment verifications.
  • Provides HRIS/Payroll support to team members by learning the HRIS system and the processes that can help improve workflow.
  • Provides support for HR driven projects and processes, to include benchmarking or other research, data collection and analysis, reporting, tracking key metrics, and project management.
  • Creates and maintains a variety of reports for use by the HR Department for compliance, audits, management and presentations. This includes routine and ad-hoc reports related to corrective actions, EEO-1, OSHA, Affirmative Action, HR Board Meeting Reports, and special projects.
  • Understands the importance of compliance and audit systems to ensure data integrity.

HR Support

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory trainings including annual refresher trainings. Works with the HR Manager to identify training needs across the organization and delivers trainings as needed. Prepares training materials. Maintains training record files and spreadsheets for reporting requirements.
  • Provides guidance and interpretation of personnel policies and procedures. Assists with maintaining the employee handbooks, company intranet HR information pages, and other documents to disseminate policies.
  • Participates in training and certifications in order to remain up-to-date on local, state, and federal laws and HR best practices.
  • Works collaboratively with the HR Generalist II/Recruiter in the recruitment and retention of employees, participate in the onboarding process and conduct searches as needed.
  • Conducts exit interviews, analyzes data and makes recommendations to the HR Department and TCAT Management.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree with 2-3 years’ experience in an office setting, customer service, payroll, benefits or related field. Some HR office experience preferred but not required.
  • Self-directed and detail oriented with the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Excellent computer skills, data management experience and knowledge of MS Office suite of applications and Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). Ability/willingness to learn new systems.
  • Integrity, professionalism and confidentiality is a must.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong people skills and customer-service oriented.

Knowledgeable in employment law, various local, state, and federal laws helpful.
