Position Summary:

As a pivotal member of our Human Resources team, the Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a crucial role in shaping a positive employee experience, fostering a dynamic company culture, and driving organizational change. This role serves as a trusted advisor and collaborative coach to people managers, offering support in various HR functions to optimize organizational performance. We're seeking a proactive professional with a growth mindset who can design and implement people-focused initiatives across the organization. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced tech environment, values learning, embraces change, and can seamlessly blend strategic thinking with tactical execution.

Essential Job Functions:

Performance Management & Development:

  • In partnership with the VP of HR, lead the design, implementation, and sustainment of performance management initiatives (such as quarterly check-ins, annual review, talent reviews, promotion processes, and succession planning).
  • Coach and mentor people managers to enhance leadership capabilities and drive meaningful performance and development conversations.
  • Collaborate with Talent Development to identify learning and development opportunities for managerial and leadership skill enhancement, and general learning opportunities to upskill employees.

Change Management & Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with technology and business leaders to deeply understand the business, organizational needs and company goals and provide HR insights and leadership to drive successful change initiatives.
  • Actively participate in organizational structure and design projects from inception to execution as well as facilitate related people motions and conversations.

Employee Relations:

  • Proactively manage and resolve employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and disciplinary actions, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into employee complaints and collaborate with cross-functional partners to reach resolutions and prevent future issues.

HR Compliance & Policy:

  • Develop and interpret HR policies in alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements. 
  • Conduct regular compliance reviews of the employee handbook and HR related policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws. 

General HR Activities:

  • Strategize with leaders on future workforce needs, collaborate on job description development, conduct compensation analysis for roles, advise on candidate offers and hiring processes, and provide seamless support through onboarding to new employees and hiring managers; as well as facilitating off-boarding activities as needed.
  • Conduct exit surveys, collaborate on annual employee survey, and gather qualitative themes to recommend future people-focused programs and initiatives.
  • Generate and analyze HRIS data to report, monitor metrics, and provide data-driven recommendations on retention, rewards, engagement, and compliance.
  • Champion and participate in DEIB initiatives to promote a culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Collaborate on compensation and rewards strategies to understand needs and market trends, align strategies with organizational goals for attraction, retention, recognition, and employee satisfaction.
  • Other job duties as assigned.  
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 
  • Education: 
    • Bachelors in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or other related fields.
    • HR certification (e.g., HRCI - PHR, SHRM-CP or similar) is preferred.
  • Experience: 
    • 7 or more years of HR experience, with a minimum of 2 years as a HRBP.
    • In-depth expertise in performance management and deep knowledge in one or more HR specialties (organizational design, employee relations, compensation management, HR compliance & policy).
    • Experience working with technology leaders and teams.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics: 
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation), ability to adapt style to the situation/audience, and influence across the organization.
  • Demonstrates strong and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable wearing multiple hats and successfully navigating competing (and sometimes time sensitive) priorities.
  • Ability to drive projects from inception to adoption.
  • Analytical mindset and comfortable presenting data-driven insights.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information and demonstrate composure in critical moments/conversations.
  • Strong understanding of California employment laws, federal regulations, and best practices related to people management.
  • Proficiency in navigating and using HRIS (UKG/UltiPro preferred) as well as PowerPoint, Excel, Word, E-mail (G Suite and Slack experience preferred). 
  • Experience in a startup environment (preferred).
  • Experience in a people manager role (preferred).

Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Employees are exposed to the typical office environment with computers, printers and telephones.

Salary Range:

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in San Diego, California is $110,000 to $145,000. The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, type and length of experience within the industry, education, etc. Brain Corp is a multi-state employer and this salary range may not reflect positions that work in other states.
