Overview
WMU Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine is recruiting for a Human Resources Coordinator, with a focus on staff benefits. In this role the ideal candidate will provide assistance with the communication and administration of employee benefit-related programs for WMed and West Michigan AirCare.
Responsibilities
  • Conducts benefit orientation for all new employees.
  • Coordinates and processes wellness reimbursements quarterly.
  • Processes Tuition Reimbursements.
  • Assists with communication and HR administrative processes pertaining to insurance, non-insurance and retirement plan benefits as well as COBRA.
  • Assists with employee benefits enrollment or termination.
  • Assists with administration of leaves of absence including the coordination of FMLA, disability and PTO for each employee type. Ensures necessary documentation is done.
  • Enters time and pay information into system to ensure employees on LOA are paid correctly.
  • Assists with ensuring benefit information is accurate in self-service system; may help resolve issues surrounding electronic data feeds.
  • Assists with annual benefit open enrollment process and annual resident benefit orientation, benefit fairs and town halls.
  • Assists with ensuring that benefit communications are kept up-to-date and required documents are distributed on a timely basis.
  • Assists with maintenance of employee benefit files and records database.
  • Assists with annual benefits reporting (ACA, 5500, 1095, Medicare Part D Notifications).
  • May assist facilitation of communications between employees and vendors, WMed and vendors, and between employees and their supervisors on certain benefit issues.
  • Assists with HRmail as needed.
  • Assists with WMed ID badging responsibilities.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related human relations discipline preferred.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in Human Resources required.
  • 1 year of benefits administration and communication in a health care or higher educational institution preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of benefit administration.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in word processing and file management using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Adobe as required by the department.
  • High level of organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of workflow and meet assigned deadlines.
  • Able to perform duties independently, with a minimal need for direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Must be enthusiastic, proactive, innovative and a quick learner.
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills along with a strong customer focus.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in grammar and spelling skills.
  • High degree of integrity to maintain absolute confidentiality in all matters related to Human Resources.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.

We train physicians in 10 residencies and five fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. To support our educational mission, we have Joint Accreditation for interprofessional continuing education, which incorporates accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.
WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.
The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
WMed is building upon Kalamazoo's century-long foundation of drug discovery and medical device development with a strategic investment in clinical, laboratory, community, and educational research. The Center for Immunobiology, Center for Clinical Research, Research Histology Lab, Innovation Center, and Human Research Protection Program contribute to the medical school's advancement of knowledge through innovation and discovery.
