JOB SUMMARY
The Health, Safety, Environmental, and Training (HSET) Safety Specialist III is an advanced-level position responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and the maintenance of a safe work environment for all personnel, subcontractors, and customers involved in Company operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Prepare and maintain documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and Company requirements.
  • Provide regulatory compliance information to HSET personnel, subcontractors, and customers.
  • Provide HSET case management support as required.
  • Prepare and review job safety analysis (JSA) and job hazard analysis (JHA) reports.
  • Perform facility inspections for Company-controlled buildings and facilities.
  • Perform investigations using root cause analysis systems to identify risks and develop solutions.
  • Perform industrial hygiene field monitoring including hot work, unit work, and confined space entry permitting.
  • Generate reports and prepare presentations as required.
  • Maintain basic understanding of Alaska Workers' Compensation Law.
  • Comply with Company and customer policies and procedures.
  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in a safety-related field with a minimum of two years safety experience preferred. Associate degree with four years of safety experience may be considered.
  • A combination of four years education, HSET training, and safety experience may be considered in lieu of an associate degree.
  • Thorough knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 1926 and a basic understanding NFPA, NIOSH, ASME, and ANSI required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database management, and photo-editing software required.
  • Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) or Construction, Health, and Safety Technician (CHST) required.
  • Certifications are tracked by the HSET Manager.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
  • Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment.

WORKING ON THE NORTH SLOPE
While working on the North Slope of Alaska, your lodging and food will be provided to you. All camps provide warm meals and options to grab a quick lunch or snack from the spike rooms. Rooms vary from single status to shared rooms where your roommate may work the opposite shift. Wi-Fi and Internet is free and available within the camp. Services vary depending upon where you are staying; however, most facilities offer housekeeping, self-serve laundry, commissary, mail, gyms, TV/Theater Room, etc. Each facility will have their own accommodations and policies that will be reviewed upon on-site orientation.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:
  • Meet the AES Driving Records and Motor Vehicle Use Policy.
  • Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.
  • Required to take and pass a Fit-For-Duty Exam
  • Required to complete and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an access badge for the work location.

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company's continued operational needs once training is completed.
