Human Resource Generalist
East Providence, RI
$55,000 to $70,000 per year depending on experience
Job Duties / Responsibilities of the Human Resource Generalist
- Ensure compliance to all Federal & State employment laws and regulations.
- Present areas of concern and recommendations for improvement to the HR Manager.
- Work with the HR Manager & Sr. Management to develop and implement policies and procedures that comply with all Federal & State employment laws while simultaneously supporting the company.
- Work with the HR Manager to develop and implement a Strategic HR Plan. The goal here is to transition the HR dept. from being tactical to strategic. Special emphasis will be placed on streamlining and automating processes.
- Monitor and maintain the Time & Attendance system in accordance with Federal & State employment laws and the policies defined in company Employee Manual.
- Ensure employee entrance & exit times are accurate, overtime has been approved by the applicable Dept. Manager, vacation & medical time is accurately recorded.
- Update, correct, and train employees as required.
- Monitor and maintain the Leave Tracking System in accordance with company Employee Manual.
- Ensure requests for scheduled or unscheduled vacation time, medical time, bereavement, jury duty, and unpaid time off are accurately recorded. Update, correct, and train employees as required.
- Support the Financial Controller in the preparation and processing of payroll.
- Work with the HR Manager to Recruit, Hire, Train, & Retain qualified personnel.
- Responsible for on / off boarding for New Hires & Terminations.
- Assist the HR Manager with identifying and securing Federal & State funding to offset costs to the company. Examples: OJT Program, Incumbent Worker Training Grant, & Tax Incentives.
- Work with the HR Manager to help create a continuous learning environment that satisfies employee position requirements & developmental needs and the company.
- Maintain Employee Records (Personal, Training, & Health)
- Work with the HR Manager to support and improve the company’s Employee Communication Programs, e.g., Interoffice Memorandums, Organizational Announcements, Payroll Stuffers, & Newsletter.
- Work with the HR Manager to maintain the Employee Bulletin Boards.
- Support HR Reporting requirements as needed, e.g., OSHA, Security, & Time & Attendance.
- Responsible for Benefits Administration & billing - Dental, Life Insurance, STD, AFLAC, Educational Assistance, & Employee Reimbursement.
- Participate in the renewal of employee benefit programs to include the preparation & roll-out to the company’s employees during Open Enrollment.
- Work with the HR Manager to develop and implement a Compensation Program that is competitive for our industry and supports retention of employees.
- Support the company’s Safety program by participating in Accident Reporting, Investigation, Root Cause Analysis & Corrective Action to prevent future occurrences.
- Work with the HR Manager to enhance the Performance Management process to include Quarterly / Annual Self Evaluations & Annual Performance Reviews.
- Work with the HR Manager to enhance Employee Recognition Programs, Birthday, Anniversary, Discounts, etc.
- Assist in resolving Employee Relations matters.
- Follow Company policies and procedures as defined in the Company Employee Manual.
- Follow all International Standards that apply to company certification and QMS.
- Follow Company Safety rules and wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.
- Maintain regular and satisfactory attendance.
- Perform duties outside of normal work hours as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education /Skills /Qualifications of the Human Resource Generalist - MUST HAVE at least 2 to 4 years of previous HR experience and must be in a manufacturing environment.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent. (HR certification or Associate degree preferred)
- Must read, write, and communicate in English as it relates to this position and safety.
- Must successfully complete 90-day probationary period.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Organized and detail-oriented.
- Self-Starter with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Possess good initiative with drive for continuous improvement.
- Cooperative with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
- Possess good Administrative & Record Keeping skills.
- Analytical.
- Public speaking.
- Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
