Interstate Waste Services is the most progressive and innovative provider of solid waste and recycling services in the country! We primarily service Northern New Jersey, Southern New York State, New York City, and recently expanded our operations of transfer stations into Pennsylvania and Ohio, where we also own and operate a state-of-the-art rail-served landfill. Responsibilities

HR Partner - UNY 

 

Sloatsburg based.  Reporting to the VP of Field HR and with a matrix reporting into the Market Vice President of Upstate New York, ensure HR service delivery and strategy to our UNY and corporate based teams.  This position plays a key role in the  deployment of HR project, driving HR functional excellence and process continuous improvement.

 

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Forge local, community relationships in the relevant markets to build local sourcing pipelines and strategies focusing on current and longer-term talent needs.
  • Ensure and drive talent and workforce plans, partnering with the business, to ensure timely delivery of talent needed to maintain and grow our business.
  • Ensure hr strategies and goals are aligned with market and corporate business strategy to enable business and market growth through the attraction, engagement and retention of talent in the market.
  • In partnership with the business, ensure strong leaders are in place with on-going leadership development and plans in place to grow leader and enhance effectiveness.    
  • Ensure recruitment, hiring events, and onboarding activity occurs as efficiently as possible for a positive candidate, employee, and hiring manager experience. 
  • Collect and analyze new hire feedback in the market to understand and continuously improve onboarding experience.
  • Leverage data analysis to develop and implement strategies to reduce hourly turnover and absenteeism; partner with talent acquisition, talent management, and line management to fill vacancies and retain talent; with managers and supervisors, ensure new hires are on-boarded and quickly engaged into IWS.
  • Provide dedicated guidance and coaching to leaders and employees; support manager training and development with focus on positive employee relations, coaching and feedback, career development, and retention.
  • Partner, coach, and equip managers to promptly address potential employee issues proactively to ensure that employee relations issues are properly identified, reported, and resolved. 
  • Lead or support HR Projects as assigned.
  • Ensure policies, practices, processes, and guidelines are ethical and compliant with laws and regulations. Assist with drafting, implementation and interpretation of policies, processes, and guidelines. Continually educate clients on HR Shared Services.
  • Partner with the business to enable the completion of engagement, action plans - so that each manager in assigned area has shared their Gallup Q12 results and identified a "One Thing" action with their team. 
  • Serve as HR support for labor relations in area of responsibility.
  • Provide and build HR best practices and tools for replication or leverage across the market areas.

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years' related HR Generalist experience as well as managing and leading HR projects, programs.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Must have strong recruitment experience; labor experience or Spanish speaking a plus. 
  • Must have valid Drivers License and Transportation. 
  • Must possess strong problem-solving and excel skills with the ability to mak data-driven decisions and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Sound knowledge of local labor laws and government requirements
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Suite and HRIS tools; PHR/SPHR certification a plus
  • Applies solid judgment ensuring integrity, compliance, & confidentiality to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality and diplomacy along with project management skills.
  • Must be comfortable working with all levels of the company from front-line employee up through executives.
  • Strong interest in innovative HR solutions, data analysis, and process improvement
