TACC staff also educate and train the next generation of researchers, empowering them to make discoveries that advance knowledge and change the world.The Research Engineering/Scientist Associate IV will join the High Performance Computing (HPC) area.

TACC promotes a healthy workplace by helping employees achieve balance between their personal and professional lives in order to increase employee engagement, job satisfaction, and overall well-being.PurposeThe Research Engineering/Scientist Associate IV will join the High Performance Computing (HPC) area to work on building a benchmarking infrastructure and maintain an archive of application performance.Responsibilities* Develop, support, and maintain performance benchmarking infrastructure composed of micro-benchmarks and real-world scientific applications at TACC in collaboration with TACC staff.* Maintain an archive of benchmark application results including provenance data.* Work with HPC staff to identify impact of new technologies on performance.* Work with TACC users to integrate HPC technologies into their research and development activities and to measure the impact of TACC's HPC systems on their research capabilities.* Evaluate performance of new hardware architectures, software technologies, and optimization approaches.* Determine and disseminate best practices for optimal performance on TACC systems.* Conduct research into benchmarking and optimization techniques, tools, and frameworks and publicize the results of these activities through presentations at conferences/workshops, and professional journals.* Pursue and obtain external funding to enhance TACC's HPC activities, expertise, and resources by helping prepare proposals to funding agencies, industrial partners, and vendors in partnership with researchers and faculty at UT Austin or other institutions.Required Qualifications* Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, a closely related field, or the foreign equivalent* Four or more years of experience in scientific programming.* Research experience in large-scale computing including at least three relevant publications.* Experience benchmarking HPC codes from multiple disciplines.* Experience evaluating HPC technologies such as parallel file systems, job schedulers, and software management environments.* Proficiency with common HPC programming languages, tools, and technologies: e.g., MPI, OpenMP, Fortran, C/C++, CUDA/OpenCL.* Demonstrated expertise working in collaborative, interdisciplinary projects with computational scientists and engineers.Preferred Qualifications* Three or more years of post-graduate experience providing HPC technical support to scientists and engineers* Experience running and maintaining benchmark infrastructure at an HPC center.* Experience running and optimizing runtime configurations of parallel computing applications for materials science, molecular dynamics, atomic physics, or astrophysics.* Experience and interest in teaching or producing HPC training materials.* Experience supporting users of large-scale computing resources.* Experience working with students to promote HPC technologies.Salary Range$90,210 + depending on qualificationsWorking ConditionsTypical office environmentRequired Materials* Resume/CV* 3 work references with their contact information; at least one reference should be from a supervisor* Letter of interestImportant for applicants who are NOT current university employees or contingent workers: You will be prompted to submit your resume the first time you apply, then you will be provided an option to upload a new Resume for subsequent applications.
