Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Leasing, the Housing Legal Coordinator will work closely with colleagues across the agency to ensure compliance with housing law, tracking and review of all legal housing cases and insurance claims, and will review leases for accuracy.
The Leasing Department supports the behavioral health programs at ICL by providing high quality housing to scattered site supportive housing programs and office spaces for our programs.
Job Description:
- Track and maintain cases such as legal and insurance from inception through completion
- Keep all legal documents or correspondence organized and up-to-date
- Researching and analyzing legal information and documents in landlord/tenant cases
- Track legal stipulations such as rent payments, repairs, etc.
- Gathering all documents, statements and evidence our attorney would need to go to court
- Coordinates legal and insurance items as related to ICL leased and owned housing with internal and external partners
- Review rent histories
- Process any possible rent arrears due to landlord
- Review lease terms to ensure they are beneficial to the organization
- Draft general correspondence and legal documents
- Maintain records of current legal cases and insurance claims
- Attend court proceedings as needed
- Analyze case trends over time
- Perform other related tasks as needed
Skills:

- Working knowledge of New York City and State housing laws including Multiple Dwelling Law and Rent Stabilization
- Working with attorneys, insurance adjustors, brokers, and insurance carriers

Required Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience working on either Housing Legal cases and/or insurance cases pertaining to housing
- Knowledge of housing court proceedings and case types
- Knowledge of insurance claims for properties
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of the real estate industry in New York City
Education:
Preferred bachelor's degree, Paralegal or legal assistant certification acceptable
