POSITION: Home Based Visitor
CLASSIFICATION: Academic/Full-time/Non-Exempt
POSITION GRADE: 5
SALARY: $17.53 per hour
JOB HOURS: 37.5 hours per week - (some evening meetings may be required)
JOB LOCATION: CAPC Watertown
POSITION SUMMARY: The Home-Based Visitor is responsible for planning and implementing age
appropriate activities for children in the home and in peer groups, with the child's guardian. The
Home-Based Visitor conducts weekly home visits and is responsible for recordkeeping in the areas of
education, health, and family service. Agency transportation will be provided. He/she support the
parents as the child's primary educator, and is also responsible for facilitating regular socialization
experiences for the same children and families twice monthly.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Have a minimum of a home-based CDA credential; Associate Degree in Early Childhood
Education; or an Associate Degree in a related field with 18 credits in early childhood education.
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with families and/or young children preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS: Candidate must be supportive and non-judgmental in working with children and
families; maintain confidentiality of program and agency related information; serve as an advocate for
children and families; work as a team and cooperate with all Head Start staff to provide quality
programming for Head Start children and families; keep accurate detailed records; possess proficient
computer skills; and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
OTHER: Preference is given to qualified in-house applicants. Employment is conditional pending Policy
Council approval, receipt of satisfactory medical exam and TB test; clearance from the NYS Child Abuse
Central Register and fingerprint clearance from the NYS Office of Children and Family Services at time of
hire. Employees will be required to sign an affidavit annually which states that they have not been
indicated with a child abuse or neglect case within the past year. Community Action is a Substance-Free
workplace and conducts random, post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug testing. A valid driver's
license is required.
