Job Responsibilities
Serves as crew leader on the maintenance mowing crew and performs routine mowing and right -of-way clearing operations. Operates boom mowers, side-mount combination mowers, and batwing mowers in roadside and right-of-way clearing operations. Assists in devising a schedule for work to be performed by maintenance crew. Quantifies daily records of work performed and materials used and records in the Highway Maintenance Management System (HMMS). Assists in instructing crew members daily in safety practices such as flagging operations, wearing of safety equipment, vehicle safety, or job site hazards. Coordinates placement of traffic control devices to properly set up a maintenance work zone according to SCDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Manual and Field Guide. Conducts safety inspection on all assigned vehicles and equipment. Monitors the preventative maintenance program and equipment to ensure a routine maintenance schedule is followed and to monitor equipment use and wear to prolong equipment life. Operates both portable tank-mounted salt brine anti-icing equipment and standard dump truck with snowplow attachment and sand spreader to remove snow and ice from highways and bridges. Assumes the duties and role of the foreman in their absence. Performs other duties as requested or assigned by supervisor including after-hours work, inclement weather operations, and assisting on-call personnel.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
Two (2) years of related work experience. Relevant education may substitute for the experience requirement. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required upon entry to the position. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
