  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify potential barriers to academic success and develop strategies to overcome them.

Advocacy and Support:

  • Advocate for students within the school and community to ensure they have access to necessary resources and support services.
  • Assist students in navigating challenges related to attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Work closely with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a supportive network for students.

College and Career Guidance:

  • Provide guidance on post-secondary education options, career exploration, and the college application process.
  • Assist students in developing resumes, preparing for interviews, and exploring internship and job opportunities.
  • Organize workshops and informational sessions to educate students and parents on college and career readiness.

Collaboration with Community Partners:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and higher education institutions to expand opportunities for students.
  • Coordinate with external resources to provide additional support services, mentorship, and enrichment programs.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance counseling skills and stay abreast of best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred, in Counseling, School Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with High School students in a counseling or advocacy role, required.
  • State licensure or certification in school counseling, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the NYC public school system, college admissions processes, and career development resources, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, educators, and community partners.
  • Effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills that follow youth development principles.

Successful candidates will demonstrate the following competencies through a combination of education and experience:

  • Able to identify and address inhibitors to progress.
  • Expertise with office technologies, especially Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and internet resources such as Google docs

Communication Skills

  • Motivating and inspirational verbal presentation style
