High Schooland College Program Senior Manager

Status: Full-time, exempt

Salary Band: $76,500- $81,000 with Benefits


Location:
Main office in Raleigh, NC; position is hybrid (2 days in office and 3 WFH), MUST be local or intend on moving to the area to be considered; requires occasional travel across the Triangle and other parts of the state.

About the position:

NCAAT is seeking a High Schooland College Program Senior Manager to lead our youth work with High School and College-aged youth around NC. Our youth program works across High School and College campuses to empower students, increase civic engagement, and be a resource for the growing Asian American student population. Our work includes our flagship leadership programs, Youth Leadership Institute and Youth Leadership Summit, as well as year-round youth voter education and politicial education opportunities including internships.

The ideal candidate has experience managing and running programs youth programs, overseeing staff and interns, and should have a deep commitment to youth empowerment, racial justice and equity, civic engagement, and relationship building. The Senior Youth Engagement Manager will report to the Program Director.


Responsibilities:

  • Own and oversee all of NCAAT/IA’s Youth Engagement Program
    • Engage often with High School and College youth at events
    • Build strong working relationships with High School and College staff and faculty
    • Manage and direct a robust youth program where youth feel empowered and nurtured
    • Oversee NCAAT's youth policy priorities including creating politics-oriented workshops and mobilizations
    • Build relationships with partner organizations for collaboration
  • Manage Youth Engagement Staff and Policies
    • Provide proper oversight and controls for staff managing youth volunteers, YAMS, and interns/fellows
    • Provide feedback, and performance improvement plans as needed in constant communication with Program Director
    • Create, manage, and consistently adapt NCAAT's Youth program protocols, such as youth onboarding policies, safeguarding policies and best practices
      • Monitor changes in other organization’s youth policies and national trends
  • Create an annual youth engagement plan for NCAAT/IA
    • Oversee and approve all plans put forth by Youth team members, with feedback and input from department director
    • Create and manage creative and innovative engagement, voter outreach, and education programs for students
    • Create and implement short-term and long-term strategic youth engagement plans, proposing new ideas and strategies for feedback to supervisor as applicable
    • Hire and supervise youth engagement staff
  • Manage our yearly Youth Leadership Institute and Youth Leadership Summit
    • Plan the summer Youth Leadership Institute, creating a full 3-day program for high-school students with workshops, speakers and enriching activities
    • Work with youth engagement coordinator to plan and execute a 1-day Youth Leadership Summit with workshops, speakers and create relevant, engaging content
    • Lead the youth engagement team in implementing both leadership programs by overseeing the vision, guiding collaboration, delegating tasks and ensuring timely completion
  • Own and manage our Asian Student Organizing Network (ASON) program
    • Recruit Asian student-led organizations to apply to our ASON program aimed to increase Asian student organzing, dialogue and opportunity sharing through mini-grants, civic engagement opportunities and youth support
    • Lead the ASON application process, determining appropriate criteria for acceptance
    • Oversee contracts and relationships each ASON group member, supporting each group to ensure completion of their commitments and disbursement of stipends
    • Facilitate ASON group meetings and educational workshops
  • Own and manage our internal internship and fellowship programs
    • Recruit, interview, and hire part-time interns and fellow
    • Serve as our fellow and interns’ direct supervisor including providing weekly 1:1s, and delegating work, while providing feedback and being comfortable offering mentorship
    • Create and lead weekly internship and fellowship check-ins and programming to foster an inclusive and enriching learning environment for cohorts
    • Support intern personal projects, offering guidance throughout the planning and implementation process
  • Strategic planning in partnership with the Programs Director
    • Serve as a thought partner to our Programs Director, helping plan and execute one-year visions for the youth work
    • Help develop the 2025 Youth Engagement plan
    • Support and act as a representative to funders, partners, and allied organizations and at conferences on behalf of our youth work
  • Supervise and manage members of the Youth Engagement Team
    • Supervisees include the Youth Engagement Coordinator and all our youth engagement interns or potential youth fellows
    • Provide and receive constructive feedback in weekly check-ins and oversee the day-to-day progress of supervisees
    • Help facilitate professional development opportunities for team members
    • Lead by example, setting high standards for communication strategies, creativity, and project execution within the team
    • Cultivate an inclusive and culturally competent team environment
    • Support and guide the Youth Engagement Coordinator throughout the planning and implementation of the spring Youth Leadership Summit, Youth HOPE, Youth Ambassador program, and any other projects they own
  • Oversee Youth Engagement team to implement youth AAPI voter registration drives to fulfill goals as assigned by the Voter Engagement team
    • Recruit and coordinate with ASON members to host voter registration drives and class raps
    • Support the Youth Engagement coordinator with outreach and coordination
    • Attend youth AAPI voter registration drives
    • Recruit AAPI youth to participate in NVRD and other voter engagement activities throughout the year


Core Competencies:

  • Experience working directly with students and student advocacy
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and equity
  • Supervisory experience and ability to lead a small team
  • Experience with voter engagement work, ideally with youth
  • Experience with voter outreach methods and organizing tools such as VAN, phone banking, texting, relational organizing, etc.
  • Detail-oriented and able to adapt to new work styles and environments
  • Strong team management experience
  • Willingness to work non-traditional hours including weekends and evenings during election season
  • Driver’s license and reliable access to a car
  • Demonstrated interest in political and civic engagement
  • Nice to have - Basic skills in any Asian language
