Job description

Position Summary:
The Hemispheric Institute at New York University is seeking a skilled videographer and Video Editor to create, produce, and manage video content for the Institute’s various documentation, preservation, and communications initiatives. The Hemispheric Institute gathers artists, scholars, writers, learners, and activists from across the Americas, with a focus on social justice and a mission to research and preserve politically engaged culture and performance through digital archives, public scholarship, artist residencies, publications, and gatherings. The Editor will work closely with NYU’s Digital Library Technology Services (DLTS) and contributing artists to prepare videos for submission to the Hemispheric Institute Digital Video Library (HIDVL). The Editor will coordinate communications and the transfer of video between contributing artists and the Institute, and between the Institute and the subject selectors at NYU Libraries. The Editor's work with DLTS and contributing artists will require the exercise of editorial judgement and narrative skills to edit and encode HIDVL video according to Library’s preservation standards. In addition to the work with NYU Libraries staff, the Editor will work with Hemispheric Institute staff to shoot and edit video, some of which may be submitted to DLTS for preservation in HIDVL. This work will include shooting and editing digital video of performances, lectures, academic conferences, and all other relevant scholarly and artistic events and actions; creating trailers and other video products for Institute film series, digital publications, and other initiatives; staging, lighting and filming interviews on and off site; setting up audio/visual equipment for presentations and events; livestreaming events both on and off campus; coordinating the transfer of digital content for submission to the HIDVL; uploading and managing edited content for Institute websites, Joomla, WordPress, and other content management systems; keeping track of Institute’s related equipment needs and making recommendations for the purchase of audio/visual equipment; training and leading video documentation teams for various gatherings and festivals. Please note this is a fixed-term position through August 31, 2024, subject to funding and renewal.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in a field related to media production, performance studies, anthropology, or other fields complementary to the work and subject areas of the Institute initiatives.
Required Experience:
2+ years experience in video editing and encoding using Final Cut Pro and other video editing software, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience creating video during live events, livestreaming events, and in visual content creation.
Preferred Experience:
1+ years Experience working in a library setting 1+ years Experience providing training on video capture and production both on site and in the field
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of video capture, encoding, and delivery standards. Strong editorial perspective and ability to create and tell a story. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities effectively. Ability to work successfully in a team environment.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Knowledge of video preservation methods and formats. Demonstrated ability to lead teams to accomplish projects related to video production. Knowledge of spoken Spanish and/or Portuguese.
Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $65,295.00 to USD $79,805.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
