The Role:
The Hedge Desk Associate will have a primary responsibility for executing futures and options trades to mitigate company’s daily exposure resulting from purchase & sale contracts, inventory fluctuations, and other bona-fide commercial activity. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, daily trading/hedging of futures and options, interacting with various national exchanges and brokers, working closely with the Trading and Sales teams, managing long/short position for flour and grain activity, Hedge Desk grain/flour position reconciliation prior and after trading hours, daily hedge P&L reporting, compliance reporting, establishing and monitoring effective business/process controls, in-depth understanding of company’s hedging strategies and limits, supporting internal and external audits for the Risk Finance space, continuous improvement initiatives, and ad-hoc project work. This position will be a key role for the Risk Finance team. The position reports to the Sr. Manager Risk Finance and has direct accountability to Risk Team and Sales Team.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Execute multitude of trading/hedging transactions electronically and over the phone during the trading hours resulting from sales/purchases of flour and grain.
  • Occasionally, be available to enter electronic trades during the night trading session.
  • Prior to market opening, reconcile the daily slate long/short position.
  • After trading hours, reconcile top day trades and physical contract activity. Ensure all physical contracts are accurately entered into the ERP by the Trading and Sales teams.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Team and Risk Finance regarding daily slate long/short commodity position analysis. Be able to explain variances and fluctuations in the slate position.
  • Work with the Trading Team to execute inter-market spreads, inter-commodity spreads, futures rolls, EFPs, EFRs, etc.
  • Support our Risk Control Group and Risk Finance around stress test and VaR reporting.
  • Prepare daily Hedge P&L and bridge hedging slippages. Be accountable to protect the trading margin with minimum slippage resulting from futures hedging.
  • Abide by company’s regulatory compliance in connection with Board established limits, company’s policies, and external regulatory framework.
  • Complete other projects, tasks, and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with key stakeholders, primarily the Grain Merchants/Traders and the Sales Team. Short. Concise. To the point.
  • Operate with simplicity, clarity, and transparency while demonstrating understanding, respect, and care for others.
  • Learn and apply new technology and share your knowledge with others.
  • Occasional travel to HQ or other company’s offices may be necessary, depending on candidate’s place of residency.
Skills & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration preferred, but not required.
  • Must be comfortable handling and analyzing sizable data sets in tight time windows. Turn data into actionable information.
  • Ability to work under pressure during trading hours. 8:30AM – 1:30PM Central Standard Time
  • Detail oriented with the ability to accurately account and explain each trading leg.
  • Some knowledge of ERPs and implementing process improvements is preferred.
  • Designing, implementing, grasping, and monitoring internal controls and effective policies.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate and execute cross functionally.
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), presentation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with impeccable attention to detail.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Possess a go-get attitude, lightheartedness, business owner mindset, and appreciation for daily intricacies of life and work.

COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION: We provide market-driven base pay, based on skills, abilities, and level of experiences. Our salary ranges are broad, and individual salary will be market competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of skills and level of experience. The starting range for this position is $71,700.00 - $95,603.20, with additional earning potential possible commensurate with experience. Additionally, we believe that our team members are the reason for our success and all team members are incentive eligible with a target based on contribution, company performance, and individual results achieved. While the specific bonus plan and target amount will be determined based on the role and breadth of contributions, the targeted bonus plan and targeted percentage amount for this role is Bonus - MIP, 5% Annual.
