Job Description
Operates heavy machinery, motorized equipment, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, front end loader, or excavator, for the purpose of construction, demolition, or excavation.
Job Duties and Tasks for: Heavy Equipment Operator
- Heavy Equipment Operator maneuvers vehicles and other machinery around construction areas.
- Heavy Equipment Operator prepares a designated site for building. They may use construction vehicles such as bulldozers, all terrain forklifts, mobile cranes, scrapers, motor graders, backhoes and more, to assist in the erection of structures as well as pour concrete and other hard surface pavement.
- Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for soil leveling or ground manipulation and for the transportation of equipment and materials.
- Heavy Equipment Operator may assist in the construction or repair of bridges, roads and railways, or they may build manufacturing plants or other private industry structures.
- All Heavy Equipment Operators should possess acute visual perception abilities to accurately judge distances.
- Heavy Equipment Operators will also need a basic understanding of electronics in order to operate many of the newer vehicles designed with electronic controls.
- Heavy Equipment Operators must work outdoors on location in all weather conditions and on all terrain, usually from the early morning hours until late afternoon.
- May operate machines that dig trenches, excavate construction sites or lift Heavy Equipment, grade land or pave roads.
- May operate water truck and similar equipment for dust control and dirt compaction.
- Use hand held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
- Will obey all traffic laws, ordinances, occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
- Performs physical demanding tasks, such climbing, bending, twisting and lifting.
