The Operator job function performs a wide variety of tasks and routine functions throughout the day-to-day support construction activities. This position maybe required to work inside and outside in a wide variety of weather conditions including; hot, cold, dry, or wet. The routine functions have a wide range of physical demands ranging from sedentary to very heavy physical exertion through the entirety of the day.
Essential Responsibilities and Tasks
· Safety focused mentality – safety is our number one priority
· Operates Heavy Equipment of various sizes including but not limited to: blade, dozer, excavator, water truck, off-road trucks, and skid steers
· Helps identify any underground or overhead utilities have been located prior to excavation
· Digging trenches, compacting earth, and backfilling holes
· Safely and efficiently operate Heavy Equipment
· Reviews trenching requirements with Superintendent to ensure all safety standards are met
· Take direction from foreman and superintendent as job progresses
· All other duties assigned
Physical Requirements
Sedentary Work – Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles such as small tools.
· On site traffic control vehicle/equipment: monitoring, tracking, counting, directing, coordination
Light Work – Light work involves lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Requires a good deal of walking, standing, sitting with some pushing, pulling of arm or leg controls. If someone is capable of light work, we determine that he or she can do sedentary work.
· Layout, verification, grading and staking
· Vehicle and equipment inspections, compliance checks and record keeping
Medium Work – Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone is capable of medium work, we determine that he or she can also do light or sedentary work.
· Hand and power tool use
· Shoveling and digging
· Skid steer operation, inspection, and maintenance
Heavy Work – Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting of carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. If someone can do heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do medium, light, and sedentary work.
· Concrete and mortar activities
· Demolition activities: sledgehammer, pry bar, debris removal
· Jackhammer and drill operations
· Legging boards installation, removal, cleaning, and storage
· Operating compact equipment
· Utility installation activities
Very Heavy Work – Very heavy work involves lifting objects weighing more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more. If someone can do very heavy work, we determine that he or she can also do heavy, medium, light, or sedentary work.
· Carrying buckets filled with concrete
· Overhead demolition activities
· Sewer cover and storm drain grate lifting, removal, and replacement
