Pioneer Mining Company is an exploration and precious metals mining company. We have secured ownership (not a lease) on one of the largest patented gold deposits in western Alaska. The current team (geologists, geoscientists, engineers, operators, and mining executives) have a combined 75 years in the placer mining industry. We are looking for one more Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join us on an adventure/job. We are based out of Anchorage, Alaska and mine in the summer months (ability to earn a years salary in ~4months). These gold claims are in interior Alaska and are REMOTE, with chartered fly in access the only means of access. Previous to our ownership the claims have been operated by a family run operation for over 28 years. PMC has expanded the operation to a small commercial mining company with the focus on a tight knit group of like minded employees who love the outdoors and mining for gold. You would be joining our team of passionate miners and be afforded opportunities not just as a mechanic but also as miner. The opportunities to get out of the shop and participate in the onsite work flow are there if you so choose.
Here are some of the specifics related to this job. Please contact Peter, the managing partner for details:
- Relocation expenses paid for from anywhere in Alaska, lower 48, or Canada (possibly further).
- You would be based out of Anchorage where we have a house in town as "home base". From Anchorage we fly on private charters to the mine site 200miles SW over Denali National Park.
- Must be a team player and able to assist in camp operations.
- As our lead mechanic, you will be supplemented by the rest of the small engine mechanics and operators as needed. We have hoists, lifts, welding equipment, tools, air compressors, presses (for CAT equipment mostly), and most anything you could possibly need already at the camps shop. You are welcome to bring a few special tools you cannot do without.
- You would be responsible for Heavy Equipment, vehicle repairs, general maintenance, and camp generator servicing and monitoring.
- Each operator and other mine personnel will be held responsible for checking the equipment they operates oil, all other fluids, greasing, and clean them. The mechanic is not responsible for these tasks while in the hands of an operator.
- Maintain stock lists; you will need to maintain a stock list (one has already been started) of all maintenance and service parts for all the equipment. As stock runs low the mine manager will need your list to make a restock order. We are in remote Alaska so great care needs to be paid to making sure we have extras of many parts on hand. Being someone who can look at a piece of equipment and understand what possible failures could occur and ordering stock of those items will be the difference between doing your job and actually helping the mine be successful for the season. If this is you, great!
- Housing (Cabin to yourself), food (you can request special dietary needs), and fresh mountain spring water, are all provided.
- Camp has a wash house with mens and womens showers, bathrooms, hot water, hot showers, washer dryers, towels, blankets, toiletries, anything you could possibly need.
- We have 2 forms of internet service (both are satelite) Hughs net and newly purchased Starlink internet. No cell service.
- You will be provided with your own truck or ATV for transportation around camp and the mine pits.
- Pictures of camp provided to qualified applicants so you can get a lay of the land. This mine/camp is in an amazingly beautiful part of interior Alaska. As long as you enjoy the being out in the mountains with moose, bears, wolves, Linx, beavers, and bald eagles (and a few mosquito's! All cabins are sealed tight and have windows with screens), you will enjoy waking up for work out here.
