The Global Health Division (GHD), within the International Development Group (IDG), works in Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases; Global Health Security and Public Health Preparedness; Noncommunicable Diseases; Heath Systems Strengthening - including Health Governance, Health Finance, Human Resources for Health, Capacity Building, and Health Policy and Advocacy; and Integrated Care - including Reproductive, Maternal, and Child Health and Family Planning. We address a range of public health problems to reduce disparities, lower disease burdens, and build locally owned sustainable health programs.
The GHD is currently seeking a Health Systems Innovation Advisor to drive growth and impact in areas at the forefront of health innovations, including providing cross-cutting technical support related to Health Systems Innovations, which could include digitalization and digital health, technologies within health care, and/or private sector engagement. The candidate in this role will lead business and proposal development initiatives, build networks, and manage, implement and monitor donor-funded program. This position may also include program management and implementation and monitoring of donor-funded programs
This role would be based in the United States (Washington DC or Research Triangle Park offices or remote) or in Abuja, Nigeria; Dakar, Senegal; or Nairobi, Kenya. Other locations would be considered on case-by-case basis. This role will require international travel 25% of the time. Candidates must be eligible to work in their country of residence without sponsorship.
Responsibilities
Business Development and Growth
- Manage the conceptualization and development of proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest for global health opportunities.
- Lead and write technical proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest for global health opportunities.
- Conduct capture, partner identification and development, and other business development activities for global health opportunities.
- Lead and/or contribute to design and methodology development aligned with Health Systems and integrated service delivery best practices.
- Support positioning and strategic planning for Health Systems and integrated service delivery opportunities.
- Develop partnerships and donor networks in support of Health Systems programs.
Technical Assistance and Project Management
- Provide technical assistance to global health projects, including field-based short-term technical assistance.
- Contribute to the development and adaptation of existing technical approaches and tools.
- Manage learning around Health Systems programming, approaches, and best practices.
- Stay abreast of USAID headquarters and mission trends around Health Systems programming.
- Provide thought leadership through articles, blogs, and presentations to USAID, clients, and peer organizations.
- Manage complex donor-funded Health Systems programs, including oversight of project reports, budgets, and M&E plans.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree and 15 years of relevant experience, Master's degree and 12 years of relevant experience, PhD and 8 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience performing business/proposal development roles, especially leading global health proposal strategy and/or writing technical sections for USAID-funded opportunities.
- Experience providing project management and administration for USAID-funded programming.
- Experience working in one or more health technical areas: health promotion and community engagement, digitalization and digital health, and/or private sector engagement.
- Demonstrated experience managing and implementing global health projects funded by USAID, CDC, and/or other key donors in the international development sector.
- Demonstrated short- or long-term experience working in developing country contexts on issues relating to clinical service delivery, community health, or Health Systems strengthening.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Ability to synthesize large amounts of information coherently and concisely
- Ability to write persuasively.
- Highly proactive and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively in teams.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in French preferred, other language proficiency (Spanish and/or Portuguese or other) a plus.
