The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention is looking to hire a Health Services Researcher to collaborate with faculty (Drs. Asma Ahmed and Emilie Duchesneau), staff, and students on epidemiologic and Health Services research projects related to various clinical outcomes, including aging, cancer, perinatal, and pediatric epidemiology. The candidate will process and analyze large administrative healthcare databases (insurance claims, electronic health records, etc.) as part of academic research projects and will assist with dissemination efforts.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Master's Degree in Health Policy, Survey Research, Epidemiology, Sociology, Economics, Data Sciences, Biostatistics or other health-related research field required.
- Three (3) years' professional experience in Public Health or healthcare related field required.
- Experience working in observational research and utilizing computers and databases to conduct analyses and interpretation of evaluation and outcome studies required.
- Solid experience in statistical programming (Stata, SAS, R, Python) and excellent analytical skills. Background in statistical analysis and regression models.
- Experience with the following databases preferred: AHRQ, Medicare, Medicaid, commercial claims, electronic health records (EHR), Census Bureau, and other sources.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Contributes data analysis support to on-going epidemiologic and Health Services research projects, including grant funded projects.
- Performs statistical programming and analysis; analyzes and interprets data collected for studies.
- Develops statistical programming skills in the processing of healthcare databases (Stata, SAS, R).
- Manipulates, combines, and refines large databases to produce information suitable for analysis.
- Learns and trains in use of new healthcare research databases (e.g., AHRQ, Medicare, Medicaid, Electronic Health Records, commercial claims)
- Prepares study reports, graphs and disease specific scorecards and disseminates results.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team of health care practitioners, researchers and outcome specialists, as well as with, federal, state and local agencies when needed.
- Designs studies for the evaluation of specific health care interventions.
- Writes and/or interprets methods sections for grant proposals and research studies.
- Assists in the preparation of posters and presentations for national and local scientific meetings.
- Performs literature reviews and write summaries.
