Position: Health Assistant
Job Status: Grade 6, Step depending on experience and qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Have a Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certificate, or obtain one within one year of hire and have specific work experience in program operations related to Health Services for children/adults.
- Education and/or experience in health, nutrition, child development, first aid, and safety.
- Experience in data entry and medical records administration, computer/database, and keyboarding skills.
- Detailed record keeping.
- Excellent communication.
- Working knowledge of local community resources related to medical and dental care and providing guidance to staff and parents.
- Can work independently and in a team environment.
- Able to determine workload priority and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Must be enrolled in the Child Care Division, Criminal History Registry, and have a clear FBI background check.
- Must pass a pre-duty drug and alcohol test and be subject to random testing for alcohol and drugs.
- Must be physically fit to perform occasional bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 pounds.
Compliance and Tracking
1. Attend meetings, training, and professional development activities as needed or requested by the Health Department
2. Ensure that Health Services materials are tracked and accounted for
3. Utilize database reports to monitor the sites and program-wide compliance with hearing and vision screenings deadlines.
4. Assist Health Manager in assuring initial screenings occur within 45 days of program enrollment.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assist Health Manager in monitoring, training, policy and procedure development, and daily administration of Child Health Services and Family/Staff Health Education
- Assist the Health Manager in creating and maintaining collaborations with community agencies and Health Providers
- Work in cooperation toward common goals with all other component areas (Education, Disabilities, Family Services, and Mental Health) within Head Start/Early Head Start program.
- Assist with the assessment of children who are ill and/or injured.
- Assist with Daily Health Checks of children when needed.
- Assist in responding to staff requests (phone, email and written) related to child health needs/concerns.
- Assist in developing and distributing written and database materials for children, adults, and employees in health, fitness, safety, nutrition, and preventive health education.
- Assist Health Manager with data entry related to medical and dental exams and medical and dental follow-up.
- Evaluate each enrolled and applying child's record and ensure the correct date is entered into the database.
- Monitor the completion of required immunizations for each enrolled child. (Using ImmTrac2)
- Work with Health Manager on the record-keeping of health-related forms, such as health exams, dental exams, and other documents as assigned.
- Must have CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Other duties assigned.

Compensation: $28,076.83 - $28,076.83 per year
