Role Summary
In partnership with Department Managers and Shift Leaders/Supervisory personnel, responsible for coordinating and ensuring that all safety and environmental standards are maintained and in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as well as company policies. In partnership with department Managers and Shift Leaders/Supervisory personnel, ensure that all training requirements, including on the job training, are met.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
• Ensure Division's SHE policies and procedures are consistently applied based Corporate and Divisional Policy, as well as being compliant with Federal, State and Local regulations
• Coordinate and attend meetings and activities of the Division's SHE Committee and Management SHE Committee
• Ensure a safe work environment by coordinating all safety activities to reduce workplace accidents and protect associates
• Review all accident/incident investigation reports and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions
• Coordinate the selection of personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate fit testing of such items
• Monitor new and amended legislation and remain current with the latest health, safety and environmental requirements
• Monitor Safety Date Sheets (SDS) and ensure they are updated
• Promote and practice "safety first" by immediately addressing hazards, defective equipment or unsafe conditions
• Establish written safety standards and annually update and review
• Provide and maintain statistics for continuous improvement in the area of workplace safety and loss control
• Coordinate and lead activities for the Magna Health and Safety audit
Environmental
• Maintain and report on status of the EMS per ISO-14001 requirements
• Maintain information on waste streams
• Conduct sampling as required
• Coordinate sampling, transportation and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
• Investigate ways to reduce waste and environmental liability
• Coordinate recycling program, spill control team and emergency response team
• Coordinate and lead activities for the Magna Environmental audit and ISO14001 audit
Ergonomics
• Evaluate safety and ergonomic issues in workstation design and layout and in the development stage of manufacturing processes and equipment
• Coordinate ergonomic improvements for the division
• Coordinate activities for quarterly ergonomics audit
Other Responsibility Areas
• Plan and coordinate safety training
• Manage and maintain EHS information systems
• Support new program launches
• Maintain a high profile with associates on the plant floor and be a strong advocate
• Maintain effective communication and coordination; maintain positive employee relations; listen to issues and concerns and respond (C48) within 48 hours
• Follow the principles of the Company Employee Charter
• Provide counsel and support on health, safety and environmental matters
• Participate in monthly associate meetings
• Report on status of departmental projects
• Handle confidential information
• Complete correspondence, forms and reports in Microsoft Office and other required programs
• Ensure all employee documentation is maintained
• Encourage safety and housekeeping practices, lead by example
• Participate in Continual Improvement activities
• Adhere to customer requirements, Business Operating System and company policies
• Perform other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Qualifications
• Able to demonstrate understanding of how job performance affects product quality and customer satisfaction
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated leadership capabilities
• Must be a team player and promote a team approach to problem solving
• Highly self motivated and flexible
• Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects, and of working flexible hours in order to meet both internal and external customer requirements
• Able to use computer and software as required
• Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact
Education and Experience
• A Bachelor of Science degree in safety engineering, ergonomics or a related discipline is preferred
• 4+ years' experience in health, safety and environmental field, in a manufacturing environment
