DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Houston Health Department is currently searching for a candidate that will be able to develop and provide educational, consultative and advisory public information health services and/or information for utilization within the community and the department. The essential functions for this position are as follow:
  • Provides customer service for Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) providers including responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Conducts training to TVFC providers on proper storage and handling of vaccines and how to report compliance using the Electronic Vaccine Inventory (EVI) system.
  • Conducts both announced and unannounced site visits to TVFC providers monthly to assess compliance with TVFC policies and procedures.
  • Keeps accurate records and conduct daily, weekly and monthly reporting of activities according to Federal and State grant guidelines.
  • Completes electronic reporting and quality assurance audit.

WORKING CONDITIONS
There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to eighteen (18) months of education or training beyond the high school level.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of related experience in the public health field is required.
An LVN license may be substituted for the experience requirement.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
PREFERENCES
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

SALARY INFORMATION
GRANT FUNDED POSITIONS
Grant & Special funded positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
