Status: Open Until Filled Details: This is a full-time, benefited position with competitive benefits that offers a starting salary of $55k - $75k per year depending on experience and/or qualifications. Apply Now Job Description Job Summary Performs a variety of routine and complex professional services to ensure the public health of the community pursuant to rules and regulations related to public health.

Receives, investigates and responds to complaints within jurisdiction. Acts as Agent of the Board of Health to carry out the functions mandated by statute and Board of Health policy. Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of Building Commissioner.

Supervision Exercised The employee is responsible for his/her own work but may be expected to provide occasional assistance or guidance to other employees. Major Duties Reviews new food establishment applications for compliance with Massachusetts State Sanitary Code. Assists applicants in understanding requirements for licensing and the application process.

Works with and coordinates with other town inspectors and departments. Enforcement of the State Sanitary Code, Chapter IV for minimum standards for recreational camps for children, through review of applications, pre-opening and routine inspections of camps. Enforcement of Chapter I and II of the State Housing Code through routine, scheduled inspections of listed housing units.

Carries out policies established by the Board of Health having authority to issue orders on behalf of the Board. Makes inspections prior to issuance and renewal of licenses and permits, such as for food handling establishments, retail food outlets, refuse collection and disposal, private sewage disposal, and swimming pool construction and operation. Consults with license and permit applicants and provides advice on meeting regulatory requirements.

Receives problems and complaints on environmental health matters such as water supply, private sewage disposal, housing, food handling, solid waste disposal, air, noise, and water pollution. Makes investigations and issues orders to alleviate problems identified. Responds to housing complaints, including inspecting premises, documenting findings and working with other necessary staff and outside parties to remedy housing problems identified.

Enforcement of Board of Health regulations and Town by laws as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned, including enforcement of other chapters of the State Sanitary Code. Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in public health, environmental sciences or a related field, and two years of field inspection experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating ability to perform above duties.

Must possess a valid driver's license. In addition to education and experience this position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, good computer skills, an ability to organize and prioritize workload and an ability to work effectively in a complex organizational environment. Tools and Equipment Used Personal computer, iPad, including work processing and database software, motor vehicle, lead testing kit, soil evaluation kit, transit, level, phone, copy and fax machine.

Outdoor work is required in the inspection of various environmental issues. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemical, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
