Make a Difference The Health Educator develops and execute various educational programs based on a patient's needs. Specialize in a clinical area (i.e. holistic therapies, pharmacy). The educator provides learning experiences to help care givers, patients and/or families better understand the disease process and how to manage it effectively and/or better understand options available to help solve or work through health improvement opportunities. Works closely with clinical staff (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, respiratory, etc) to develop effective teaching strategies.
Exceptional Skills and Qualifications Applicants for this position should be able to collaborate with others in a team setting, have excellent communication skills, and a positive attitude toward problem-solving.
- Prime for Life certification required.
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a clinical area required.
- 5 + years of experience in specific clinical area required.
- Prior experience with patient education preferred.
- C ollaborate with team members and appropriate department representatives to create education content, coordinate delivery method and communicate availability of requested or required training.
- Organize class schedules and materials to facilitate engaging classroom training.
- Involve learners and stakeholders in the evaluation process, creates, implements, revises, documents and disseminates outcomes of learning.
- Develops teaching plans and strategies.
- May develop or modify education materials and curriculum.
- Provides in-house education training for staff and/or patients.
- Assesses and documents appropriately in regards to patient and family learning needs.
- Evaluates patient outcomes.
- Reviews and updates class content and handouts.
- Provides effective and interesting education to groups or individuals.
- Manages material resources and facilities.
- Participates in staff meetings, peer review, continuing education.
- Participates in educational design/redesign.
- Attends meetings and serves on committees to facilitate an integrated seamless continuum.
