Position Summary:
- The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the volleyball program, including (but not limited to) practice and game preparation, recruiting and retention of student-athletes, hiring and supervision of assistant coaches, budget management, fund-raising, scheduling, public relations, community service and strict adherence to all NJCAA and College rules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Directs the planning, organizing scheduling, and coaching of the volleyball program.
- Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.
- Directs and coordinates the activities of the volleyball staff to include the planning, organizing, and coaching of the team; ensures compliance with College, Conference, and NJCAA policies.
- Directs the volleyball staff in the preparation of analysis of opponent teams; analyzes game statistics and tactical data of opponents.
- Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters; consults College administration and faculty for resolution of problems as required.
- Assign geographical area to and supervise the volleyball staff in the recruitment of new players
- Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations; monitors verifies, and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds.
- Directs various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
- Studies, evaluates, and implements innovations in volleyball strategy and equipment.
- Develops, coordinates, and publicizes camp programs, and fundraising activities.
- Works effectively with students and challenges students appropriately with an acceptable level of civility and discourse.
- Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives. Collects, reports, and maintains assessment documentation.
- Represent the Athletic Department in professional, civic, charity, and alumni events.
- Supports the mission and strategic priorities of the program, division, and College. Actively participates in community organizations, service groups, or events sponsored by the campus for the community.
- The position will include frequent evenings, nights, and weekends
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Program Area Responsibilities (as applicable):
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.
Education and/or Work Experience:
- Previous head coaching experience at either the collegiate or high school level is required.
- Associate’s Degree required.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Two years work experience in coaching in higher education preferred.
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one and in small groups.
- Ability to develop and complete projects and tasks without continued direct supervision.
- Proficient in word-processing and presentation software, internet, and e-mail.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student and community population.
- Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work a combination of days/evening/weekend schedules
- Proven record of integrity and leadership.
- Willingness to advance the goals of the Athletics Department, including fundraising.
- A commitment to the academic success and graduation of student-athletes.
- Knowledge of international/nationwide/statewide recruiting is preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (as applicable):
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must possess current CPR and AED certifications
