MARION CITY SCHOOLSMarion, Ohio November 15, 2023 SUPPLEMENTAL COACHING VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENTAnticipated Opening for 2024-25 Fall Season Position: Head Varsity Boys Soccer - Range II - Harding Time Schedule: Seasonal as determined by the OHSAA Salary Rate or Ratio: Salary/Stipend Reports to: Athletic Director/Designee Employment Status: Supplemental Contract FLSA Status: Exempt Description: To lead, promote, and facilitate student athletes to achieve maximum potential in the chosen activity/sport by instilling ethical values, teamwork and a winning attitude. To organize and coordinate practices and meetings by utilizing assistants and all available resources to promote and teach the fundamentals of the activity/sport. Qualifications: PASP - Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit issued by The Ohio Department of Education, which includes: -Fundamentals of Coaching -Concussion Education -Valid CPR Certification -First Aide/Health SafetyA thorough knowledge of the sport/activity that is being taught Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training - Lindsey's LawAlternative to the above qualifications as superintendent and/or board of education may find appropriateRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: An extensive knowledge and background of the sport that he/she is coachingAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsKnowledge of child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasksAbility to work in a team environmentInteracts in a positive manner with staff, parents and studentsEstablish and maintain cooperative relationshipsEssential Functions: Exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgmentRespond appropriately to crisis situations (i.e.
emergencies, employee/parent concerns)Ensure the safety of studentsSet a good moral and ethical example for athletes, the student body, and communityWork cooperatively with the Athletic Boosters to better the athletic programFollow the athletic policy so there will be consistency in dealing with athletes in a fair and firm mannerConduct oneself in an ethical manner during contests and practicesSet up practice schedulesNotify parents of athlete(s) needing medical attention, refer for a physical and keep records of injury Responsible for all equipment and inventory in conjunction with the athletic directorResponsible for handing out, collecting, cleaning and storage of equipmentAssist in setting up itineraries and bus schedule for away gamesBe present at all practices and contests or have a designated coach in charge until all players have left the field or buildingCooperate with other sports/coaches to develop a total athletic programPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude, and conversationMaintain good attendance and punctualityWork cooperatively with the teaching staff, administration and parents Other Duties and Responsibilities: Support the philosophy of the varsity level programsAssign responsibilities to trainers and managersSubmit required lists and reports (roster for eligibility and for programs) to the athletic director in a timely manner with all required informationCompletely discuss procedures and responsibilities with all assistant coachesAssist in planning special events such as pep assemblies, homecoming, and parent's nightMake decisions on all athletic awards and conduct player voting for awards requiredInform all athletes of their rights and procedures if they are denied participation or dismissed from the squadKeep abreast of new techniques and innovations by attending clinics and reading materialBe able to assist and attend Athletic Boosters and Athletic Council meetings, if neededPromote the program to the parents, community, and studentsOrganize and plan awards programs for your sportAssist in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of assistant coaches for the middle schoolEstablish a communications system to athletes and parents from elementary to varsity levelsAssist in the collection of required student athlete forms, pay-to-participate fees, etc.Assist the athletic director in the evaluation of assistant coachesAssist athletic director in scheduling contestsMaintain appropriate licenses/endorsements and training hours as requiredAdhere to all standards established by the Ohio Department of Education for Licensed EducatorsMaintain good attendance and punctualityRefer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policyPromote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversationBe able to use athletic softwareFollows Board PolicyOther duties as assigned by the Athletic Director Equipment Operated: First aid kitMotor vehicleSport appropriate equipment such as batting cages, golf carts, blocking sleds, goal posts, etc.Potential use of technology (computer, cell phone, etc.) Additional Working Conditions: Occasional exposure to bodily fluidsAfter school and weekend workRequirement to travel both daily and possibly overnightOccasional operation of a motor vehicle in inclement weather conditionsLift, carry, push, and pull various supplies and materials up to a maximum of 50 pounds NOTE: The above lists are not ranked in order of importance.
