Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Child Care Director, the Head Teacher will be responsible for the development and implementation of the daily activities and routines for a single classroom based on the Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale and PA Early Learning Standards.
Pre-School 3 & 4 Year Olds
Child Ratio 1 to 10
Daily reports
Warm, nurturing staff
Story & circle time
Center time with studies of Science, Blocks and building, Dramatic play, manipulatives and art
Daily gross motor
Field trips and visits to the Library
Swim lessons
Essential Functions:
Plans, codes, and implements developmentally appropriate and culturally relevant classroom activities based on the PA Early Learning Standards. This includes developing monthly calendars, and weekly lesson plans.
Meets the emotional, social, physical and cognitive needs of each child.
Completes bi-annual assessment of child’s development and reports progress through parent-teacher conferences in September and March.
Completes age appropriate evaluations monthly.
Completes at least one anecdotal record per child weekly.
Coordinates the responsibilities of assistant teacher and child care aides.
Assists the director with designated activities, administrative and/or supervisory duties.
Supervises a small group of children as assigned and maintains the general safety and health of the children according to established standards.
Must know the childcare handbook.
Maintains safety and cleanliness standards.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with 30 Early Childhood Education credits and one year (1250 clock hours) experience working with children.
OR
Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university with 60/65credits including 30 Early Childhood Education credits and three years experience working with children.
Must complete all required YMCA training certifications.
At least eighteen years of age. Criminal clearances (Act 33). Child Abuse clearances (Act 34), FBI Clearances, Non-communicable diseases physical exam every two years. TB test by the Mantoux method once upon hire.
