Description
Summary:
Directs, provides leadership, and oversees all coaching duties for an interscholastic Men's Basketball Program operating under NCAA Division I operating bylaws and regulations. Directs and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and training for athletic competition, and oversees the planning and fiscal management of program activities.
Examples of Duties
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organizes, prepares, and conducts individual and team practices, training, and competition.
- Recruits student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations through scouting, attending tournaments, and home visits.
- Directs all aspects, areas and components of sports team (i.e.; defense, offense, or various individual positions).
- Coordinates all strategic aspects of the specific sports program.
- Represents sports program to various institutional programs and externally to media, government agencies, funding agencies, students, parents, and the general public.
- Manages daily operations of the athletic program; directs, supervises, and coordinates all administrative facets.
- Oversees all aspects of the financial operation of the athletic program.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
- Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Knowledge of athletic recruitment methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of NCAA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.
- Ability to lead and guide Division I student-athletes in area of specialty.
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
- Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques.
