THE POSITION
Washington County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Limited Duration Epidemiologist to join the Research Analytics Informatics and Data (RAID) Branch within the Public Health Division. This position supports Harm Reduction programs and services (e.g., needle exchange) and provides the data support needed for the STI/HIV team within the Disease Control and Prevention (DCAP) Branch!

About the Opportunity:This position works closely with fellow RAID epidemiologists, data analysts and informaticists, and public health nurses and program coordinators, and community partners. The epidemiologist classification is required to take part in the 24-hour county health department on-call weekly rotation and may be asked to assist in surge capacity for outbreak investigations. The person in this position should meet the Tier 2 CSTE/CDC competencies for a public health epidemiologist as listed in the essential duties below.
As the Harm Reduction/STI/HIV Epidemiologist, you'll lead epidemiological assessment, surveillance, program evaluation, and data analysis related to Measure 110 funded Harm Reduction services/programs. You will also provide data technical assistance to Behavioral Health Resource Network (BHRN) providers and support the surveillance data needs for the prevention of HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and viral hepatitis. This work includes:
  • Responding to data requests related to STI/HIV grants and program element reporting requirements.
  • Supporting STI/HIV surveillance data completeness and quality.
  • Providing STI/HIV epidemiological subject matter expertise on cross-program and community collaborations.
  • Leading/guiding HIV cluster investigations.
Your work will enhance the Public Health Division's assessment capabilities, leading to positive public health outcomes and the success of critical programs and initiatives.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule including up to 3-4 days/week remote work.
Who We Are Looking For:The ideal candidate demonstrates expertise in epidemiological and evaluation principles. They will also have strong communication skills, both written and oral, to enable effective interaction with diverse audiences and demonstrate cultural sensitivity. They would be proficient in programming with SAS, STATA, and/or R for data analysis, have experience with data visualization tools, and have the ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
  • A Master's Degree with a focus in epidemiology and at least two (2) years of work experience in epidemiology with a public health agency; OR
  • A doctoral-level degree in epidemiology; OR
  • Other non-epidemiology graduate degree or certification (e.g., RN, MD/DO, DDS/DMD, DVM, PhD, RS) with specific epidemiology training (e.g., MPH degree, CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service or CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellowship).
Additional Licenses, Certificates, Physical Abilities and Specialty Requirements:

Selection Process

  4. Panel Interview(s): Generally, the top 6 - 8 candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
  5. Conditional Offer: A successful candidate is required to pass the driving record check as a pre-employment condition.

Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment.
