Lumber Sales Representative – Southwest/West Coast Regions
Besse Forest Products Group, headquartered in Gladstone, MI, is one of the leading producers of Hardwood Lumber, veneer, and plywood in North America operating four sawmills, lumber concentration yard, three veneer mills, one plywood plant, and employs over 350 personnel.
We are currently seeking a dedicated Lumber Sales Representative to join our Lumber Sales Team. This position can work remotely.

You will effortlessly build rapport and make connections with clients, prospects, the Besse Group team members, and other pivotal contacts. You will be business and marketing savvy, self-motivated, personable, and an exceptional communicator who can translate customer needs to technical experts and back again. You will also collaborate effectively with other divisions within the Besse Group, and support Besse’s brand to expand and pursue new business opportunities.
Key Areas of Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the Lumber Sales and monthly volume expectations for the North American and International markets for our lumber production.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Purchasing Managers, as well as other personnel within his/her assigned customers and accounts.
- Conduct market research according to the factors and policies established.
- Present new programs internally and externally to create opportunities for business growth.
- Research and generate new accounts and follow through on sales leads.
- Create monthly and annual Lumber Sales forecasts, as well as determine realistic actions necessary for budget fulfillment.
- Build and promote strong, long-lasting customer relationships by partnering with them and understanding their needs. Including, traveling to those customers.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of sales experience in the lumber or plywood industry, international sales is a plus.
- 4-year degree in business, sales, forestry or related field is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of hardwood species, plywood and lumber grading standards.
- Must demonstrate self-confidence and motivation, possess excellent verbal and written communication skills along with strong analytical abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite is a plus.
