Where the chemistry happens...
Reporting to the North America (NA) Technical Manager for Asian OEMs, this regional role provides an opportunity to make a significant difference to the success of the Coatings business. In this role, you will be responsible for directly managing the assigned technical team which will be located in different countries. You will be required to provide technical direction for the development of new Automotive Coatings and assign and prioritize work within the team. You will be responsible for ensuring that project timelines are developed and communicated to all key stake holders. The individual will also serve as the primary technical contact with the Regional Asian Key Account team and will work collaboratively to prioritize the technical work for the team. The incumbent will be responsible for the training and development of their team and ensuring that the proper safety practices are being followed. The individual will also be responsible for ensuring that lessons learned, and best practices are documented properly (i.e., Design Matrix, DFMEA, formulation guidelines). The successful candidate must have high level of entrepreneurial drive with ability to think technically, strategically, and analytically while navigating through all functions, levels, regions within BASF and at the customer. This role is on site 4 days aweek in our Coatings headquarters in Southfield, MI.
What you'll do...

• Managing and leading a team of 7 associates (US and Mexico) in the development of new colors and service of existing products for Asian OEM's
• Collaborating with global customization technical teams for introduction of new technologies in the North America market
• Collaborating with Regional Key Accounts and Field service teams to address technical requests / trouble shooting projects related to new or existing products, by managing, initiating, and coordinating projects together with production sites.
• Driving and supporting the achievement of profitable growth through continuous improvement and executing of cost saving measures of existing products and raw materials.
• Establishing individual development plans for all employees. Routinely follow up with employees to ensure progress on plans.

If you...

• Bachelor's Degree in a science major with 10 years of experience in color / paint Or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a Non-Chemical Science with at least 5 years of experience in the field of coatings.
• Development of coating systems for Automotive Coatings (focus on base coat and primers).
• Comfortable using SAP.
• Experience and breadth in coating chemistries and with multiple paint systems and layers.
• Experience interacting with external customers.
• Experience working in a dynamic environment with ability to manage changing priorities.
• People and Project Management experience.
