Essential Internship Duties Work closely with the Public Affairs Coordinator to develop graphic art, aligning with the City of Springfield's brand standards, for the city's Social Media and website. Incorporate branded campaign elements throughout multiple executions including advertisements, Social Media, brochures, giveaways, presentations, videoboard content, promotional displays, and signage.
Assist with Social Media listening and scheduling. Other Internship Duties Retouch and edit photos. Assist with video shoots.
Performs all other related duties as assigned. Primary Internship Challenges Keeping up-to-date with city design standards and office practices and procedures. Demonstrating an ability to organize.
Prioritizing and timely completing a diverse assortment of tasks. Effectively communicating with employees regarding the status of their design needs. Equipment Operated Personal computer with applicable software.
Basic office equipment such as a copier, printer, and scanner. Key Competencies Required Knowledge of the basic concepts and principles of design. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud programs predominantly Express, After Effects, Premier, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
Knowledge of various Social Media outlets and how to effectively use each. Ability to make strategic decisions in accordance with city, state, and departmental policies. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to keep and organize routine operational records and make reports. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the general public.
Ability to work independently and solve problems. Physical Demands and Work Environment Employee will work mostly indoors and perform technical work related to design and communications. Employee may be required to sit, stand, stoop, walk, lift, climb, and carry light and heavy objects (more than 25 pounds).
Qualifications Education and Experience: Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Marketing, Graphic Design, Media Arts & Design, or related field, enrolled as a full-time student, and must have completed at least one semester of coursework. Required Certifications/Licenses: A minimum G.P.A. of 2.8.
Must provide an unofficial transcript. Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee. Hours/Time Commitment: Internships are available in conjunction with the academic calendar, coinciding with the fall, spring, and summer semesters.
Students should be able to work during the City of Springfield's operating hours, including occasional evenings and/or weekends as the position requires. Start dates may vary based upon department needs and class schedules. The time commitment is 6-12 weeks with a minimum of 8 hours weekly.
All interns are required to record their service hours.
