Graphic Design supports citywide communications efforts and marketing programs by creating and maintain a variety of assets and materials for use in print and digital media for both internal and external communications. The role helps maintain the City brand while working on a wide variety of projects. An integral part of the Graphic Design job is to collaborate closely with the Communications Team and other City departments to advise, guide, shape, and visually frame messages and ideas on behalf of the City. Work is focused on conceptual design production.
Social Media monitors trending topics, keywords, and hashtags and finding unique ways to integrate them with the City's messaging, as well as following conversations online while working with the City's subject matter experts to provide answers and feedback to questions and comments from the community in a timely manner. This role may also be responsible for tracking social marketing effort success rates through goal setting with markers for identifying success through various online analytical tools.
This is a hybrid position that offers up to two telecommuting days per week.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Consulting with staff on conceptual layouts for a wide range of graphic materials
- Preparing layouts: making recommendations regarding presentation approaches, styles, techniques, and other production factors.
- Designing and implementing through production, illustration, posters, brochures, reports and templates, presentations, banners, flyers, newsletters, forms, web graphics, and other print and digital publications.
- Utilizing Social Media platforms to promote City messaging and grow our online audience.
- Developing and implementing a Social Media strategy to encourage greater participation and engagement.
- Coordinating production of printed materials, etc.
Knowledge of:
- Art, photography, publication and design.
- Social media platforms and tools including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, Nextdoor, LinkedIn, YouTube, Hootsuite to increase online audience and reach.
- Graphic tools, techniques, and mediums.
- Web design using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and other languages and libraries.
- All areas of Graphic Design including page layout, web design, presentation design, photography, image/photo-editing, and vector-based Graphic Design.
- Proficient in a variety of software including the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) as well as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Outlook).

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Digital Communications or related field and five years of applicable experience required.
- Preference given to those with:
- A strong background working with the Adobe creative products, creating digital marketing materials and developing and implementing Social Media campaign strategies.
- Knowledge with SharePoint content editing, experience with CivicPlus's Civic Engage website platform, email marketing software and ArcGIS StoryMaps or similar software.
- Experience in the public sector.
