The USET Grants Writer/Coordinator is responsible for drafting proposals for grant opportunities to support the needs of program services to further Tribal Nation/organizational rebuilding and access to funding—specifically, funding for infrastructure development. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting USET’s membership with evaluation of funding opportunities, provide subject matter expertise on alignment between the funding opportunity and the goals of USET’s member Tribal Nations, grant writing/coordination, and overall proposal development.
Exempt/Non-Exempt and Salary Range
The USET Grants Writer/Coordinator is an exempt position requiring occasional travel and irregular work hours, with a salary range starting at $47,683 per year.
Location
The USET Grants Writer/Coordinator is a remote position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists Grant Manager in evaluating and providing subject matter expertise to USET’s membership for Tribal Nation rebuilding and infrastructure development funding opportunities that support the Tribal Nation’s/organization’s goals, objectives, and activities of member Tribal Nations.
2. Write grant proposals with information gained through research processes and strong working relationships with USET’s member Tribal Nations and staff who possess a strong understanding of organizational goals and objectives, feasibility studies and department need.
3. Assists Grant Manager with maintaining a database of grant proposals submitted and their award/denial status.
4. Establish and maintain close coordination with USET’s Tribal Infrastructure Development program, providing insight and analysis as federal infrastructure funding opportunities are developed and implemented in an effort to inform outreach to Tribal Nations.
5. In partnership with the Grant Manager, responsible for collecting demographic information and data to be maintained in a database of information on the organization and its member Tribal Nations which will be useful to develop grant proposals and planning documents. Experience with evidence-based practices a plus.
6. Assists Grant Manager with providing regular progress reports on grant funding goals, and other reports as requested, and pursuant to conversations with USET member Tribal Nations.
7. Assist with organizational events and participate in grant writing workshops and seminars.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university, which has equipped applicant with knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform duties of the position.
2. Strong critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
3. At least three (3) years of increasingly responsible positions in Grants writing; experience with funding Tribal infrastructure development a plus.
4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management, colleagues, and both internal and external contacts.
5. Must have excellent time management skills, ability to handle multiple projects.
6. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
7. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Access.
8. Ability to work with math concepts, in relation to budgets, probability and statistics.
9. Must have demonstrable ability to work with people from diverse cultures including cultural sensitivity and the ability to work within the customs and traditions of various tribal groups.
10. Ability to travel and work irregular hours as necessary.
