New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit child welfare agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical complexity, chronic health conditions, significant disabilities and behavioral challenges. NAC is currently seeking a dynamic Grant Writer to join its Development Department.
DESCRIPTION OF DEPARTMENT:
The Grant Writer will work collaboratively with the Development team and will be responsible for writing grant proposals and reports, as well as researching and tracking funders and potential funders.

Position Type: Full Time.
Pay Range: $50,000 - $65,000

Description of Responsibilities:
· Generates revenues for NAC programs and services through timely submission of compelling, well-researched, well-written and well-documented grant proposals
· Liaisons with program staff to develop solid understanding of organization’s programs, initiatives, and history
· Works with program staff to formulate budgets for proposals
· Writes progress reports to corporate and foundation funders
· Identifies funding opportunities and new programs to match NAC priorities, using research
· Assists in managing donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategy for grants.
· Assists with making contacts related to fundraising, such as contacting other agencies for letters of support; contacting funders as needed to obtain/update information, promote NAC and secure funding
· Assists with preparation for meetings such as the Board Development Committee as necessary
· Assists with database and records management
Required Education and Experience:
· Experience in writing and research fields, including English Literature, Journalism, and Communications. Preference for some grant writing experience, preferably with a non-profit social services institution.
· Bachelor’s degree in a related subject.
Required Skills:
· Strong written and oral communication skills
· Strong organizational skills, ability to manage projects on a timeline
· Attention to detail
· Computer literacy: Excel, Word and experience with on-line research and resources required
· Experience with Raiser’s Edge helpful
· Knowledge of social services field experience helpful
