Job description

Position Overview:

This is a rare opportunity to join an eight-person investment firm based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the #7 fastest growing economy in the US. We manage $475M in assets for approximately 200 high net worth families and embrace personal balance to foster full and rewarding lives. With one of the lowest client-to-advisor ratios in the industry, we think smaller is better. The team is a respected provider of private wealth management for over 20 years and has won awards from Forbes for best wealth advisor. We know our client families well and take pride in our average 16-year relationship tenure with 99% annual retention. Our clients work hard to have the money they entrust to us. We take care of their investments like we would want someone to take care of our own and hold dear our commitment to act in a client’s best interest. It shows - they’ve helped us grow at more than double the average industry rate.

Do you enjoy forming deep client relationships? Collaborating in a high-trust team environment? Are you energized by promotions based on merit? Lifetime learning? Listen as much as you talk? Then we want to get to know you.

This position is designed to be:

  • 40% Client Contact – often the first and most frequent point of contact for our clients. Making and answering service calls, being in client meetings with the lead advisor and sending follow-ups. Well-trained and well-informed to get answers or quickly escalate issues to resolution, ensuring we exceed expectations.
  • 40% Business Processing, making the ‘red tape’ feel easy to get it done for the client. Working with custodian forms and internal processes – carefully paying attention to details and taking pride in reliability to keep track of a task through multiple steps and people. Think Salesforce, Excel, Adobe, etc.
  • 20% Client Meeting Preparation, preparing reports, visuals, and customized analysis as needed for meetings.

We have a mix of employees in the office and remote – anticipate hybrid in this role after the first year with one late night for client meetings (made up during the week with flex time). While we've had success with out-of-state employees, this role is strongly preferred to live in Grand Rapids, MI. Bonus and moving costs will be paid to someone willing to relocate.

This is not a sales position, though it can be a springboard into a servicing, lead, or partner advisor if that’s desired. The right candidate will act like an owner. Notice and communicate when systems aren't working. Genuinely help to make your clients and your colleagues more successful. In our culture, we plan carefully and deadlines matter. Individual contribution counts and your ambitions and abilities make a difference, and you’re not alone out there - we’ve got your back.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Deliver referable Client Service – recognizing the caller ID and warmly answering the phone before it goes to voicemail, responding to emails same day or before noon the next day – solve problems or find someone on the team who can.
  • Think a few steps ahead and anticipate client/colleague/team needs so we’re easy to do business with.
  • Set expectations – enjoy feeling like the expert on how to get things done - from paperwork/digital forms to money movement to the strategic topics of financial planning – communicate a full 360 picture.
  • Volunteer – seize the opportunity to get into Canva and design a new powerpoint, partner with our IT vendor to learn how to create a salesforce process, etc.
  • Integrity – do the right thing, all the time.

About Us:

We are an independent partnership with employees who have unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. Our team genuinely values the whole person. We have won the 101 Best & Brightest Places to Work national award for multiple years. Enjoy a competitive base salary, quarterly incentives, and annual bonus opportunities. Annually we go on two-night retreats in places like Key West, Mackinac Island, or Puerto Rico. The best ideas come when you least expect them, and we don't want you to be gone from your personal life for too long. The ideal candidate will be a natural self-starter with an entrepreneurial spirit eager to work with no ego on a team of A-players. Embrace technology to work smarter, not harder, so we can stay small.
