Job Summary:

As a Laborer and Grade Checker at PB Sullivan Construction, you will have a multifaceted role in supporting civil construction projects. Laborers will assist with various physical tasks, while Grade Checkers will ensure that construction elements meet specified grades and quality standards. Both of these positions offer a unique opportunity for individuals to gain experience in multiple aspects of the construction field.

Responsibilities (Laborer):

Assist with various construction tasks, including digging, trenching and material handling.
Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment.
Maintain a clean and organized work area by clearing debris and storing tools properly.
Operate small hand tools and equipment under supervision.
Follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Help with site preparations, including setting up barricades and traffic control as necessary.
Report safety hazards or concerns to the supervisor promptly.
Participate in on-the-job training to develop skills and advance within the company.
Perform other duties as assigned by the construction supervisor.

Responsibilities (Grade Checker):

Utilize surveying instruments and equipment to check and verify construction grades and elevations.
Ensure that excavation, grading, and other site work meet project specifications and design plans.
Communicate with the construction team to make necessary adjustments and corrections.
Record and document grade checks and survey data accurately.
Assist with layout and staking as required.
Collaborate with the project manager and engineers to maintain project quality.
Adhere to safety guidelines and report any safety concerns promptly.
Provide support to the construction team as needed.

Qualifications:

For Laborer:
No prior experience required; construction experience is a plus.
Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
Strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Basic understanding of construction processes and terminology is advantageous.
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).

For Grade Checker:
Previous experience as a Grade Checker or similar role in civil construction is preferred.
Proficiency in using surveying instruments and equipment.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
Strong attention to detail and precision.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
