JOB TITLE: Governance Manager

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Governance Manager is responsible for leading the network of 13 schools in meeting all compliance deliverables required to maintain a healthy and successful charter. This encompasses the implementation and review of school management compliance components, including but not limited to: local, state, and federal laws and policies related to school administration, Title funding, Special Education and English Language Learners, and life safety requirements. This team member is also responsible for developing and managing compliance related partnerships with school management organizations (Distinctive Schools, ReGeneration Schools, and Civitas Education Partners), charter authorizers (Chicago Public Schools), and state compliance departments (ISBE) as needed. The Governance Manager is responsible for onboarding, communicating, and monitoring the implementation of external and internal compliance requirements, ensuring CICS’ service to schools and also schools’ compliance efficacy is continuously improving in partnership.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight of Local, State and Federal Compliance
- Develops and executes strategies for structure and routines to guarantee compliance according to the school management contracts
- Informs, advises, monitors, and course corrects in partnership with school operators, school leaders, relevant instructional and school support staff of all applicable educational laws, rules, and guidelines set by local, state, and federal authorities
- Develops,implements, and archives focused interventions, trainings and supports as needed to assist schools achieve and maintain compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and policies
- Responsible for staying current with and strategically cascading all relevant local, state and federal rules, laws and regulations that impact school management and administration
Compliance Monitoring with a focus on Equity
- Maintains and tracks all internal and external network compliance requirements via Epicenter for 13 campuses with above 98% compliance rate
- Assists with the redevelopment and retraining if necessary of network policies with appropriate network staff and leadership team
- Monitors compliance surrounding all Charter Renewal metrics on a monthly or quarterly basis and implements effective course corrections in partnership with schools if necessary to ensure schools are on-track for our next authorizer renewal cycle
- Monitors compliance surrounding discipline on a monthly basis and reinforces equitable discipline interventions for a network of 8,000 students
- Maintains policies and procedures of compliance requirements for CICS’ 13 schools with the appropriate accountability systems
- Conducts assessment of risk and vulnerabilities for charter compliance that informs network leadership team, school management organizations, and local school communities
- Monitors these practices and ensures schools maintain all records required to certify compliance deliverables
- Administers schedules that communicates compliance deliverables; along with, assigning and managing compliance deliverables for network staff, school operators, school leaders, relevant instructional and school support staff tasks via Epicenter
- Develops and implements a project plan of reporting dates, gathers data from various sources, and ensures timely reporting
- Recommends, administers and enforces network policies and procedures related to student expulsion procedures
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum 3 years’ experience working in academic compliance or relevant field
- Working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local curriculum and assessment standards as well as student supports and interventions
- Working knowledge of CPS compliance calendar and Epicenter, CPS’ compliance reporting software, preferred
- Undergraduate degree required, Master’s preferred or relevant work experience
- Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; required)

TRAVEL:
This position is based out of Chicago International Charter School’s office location in the heart of downtown Chicago. At CICS, we believe in offering a flexible work environment. Employees are expected to be in the office on average 2 days a week and may work from home on other days. Local travel to various campuses throughout Chicago is required.
COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is $64,000-79,000. Incoming salaries are determined based on the candidate’s experience and internal equity.
