Overview
Fuel Cell Test Engineers are responsible for preproduction product development testing, design system integration testing, system calibration and control development testing, and durability/validation testing. Test Engineers address testing needs within General Motors and our Fuel Cell System Development/R&D teams, fostering the communication required to ensure the highest level of safety and data quality in a dynamic testing atmosphere.
Role
In this role, data analysis will be used to improve engineering operations by identifying and correcting component failures. Communications and organization skills will be key in solving problems and maximizing quality test time. A thorough understanding of fluid, electrical, mechanical, hydrodynamic, and Fuel Cell systems allows our team to diagnose and correct issues in a developing system, documenting operational changes to account for the new technology.

*This is a 1st or 2nd or 3rd shift opportunity*
Responsibilities
Support weekend and off-shift test needs as required for continued operations
Sets up and tests Fuel Cell Stacks and systems which interface with high voltage safety systems
Reviews and analyzes testing requests, fulfilling requirements, ensuring safety and high data quality
Analyze test data output and provide improvement recommendations ensuring the highest data quality
Review data from electrical, fluid, mechanical, and thermal systems identifying system abnormalities
Provide engineering analysis used for troubleshooting system hardware and control software, including identification and resolution of test stand, test protocol, and/or test article related issues.
Support build modifications and maintenance to the Fuel Cell module providing maintenance feedback and continued improvement
Maintain area metrics and workplace organization standards
Lead continuous improvement activities and participate in the problem resolution process
Participate in cross training initiatives for Stack / Module Build and Test Operations
Communicating with other engineers, resolving mechanical complications and scheduling operations
Constantly improving the workspace, administration, and operations environment
Additional Description
Required Skills
Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering or related field
2+ years of testing and operation experience within an emerging technology environment or related engineering experience
Solid understanding of computer controlled hardware and instrumentation
Solid understanding of temperature and pressure sensors, and mass flow control
Self-reliant problem solver with demonstrated experience exceeding expectations in an electro mechanical work environment
Ability to multitask in a highly flexible environment and adjust quickly to rapidly changing priorities
Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and work in a team environment
Experience reading and following mechanical and electrical assembly documents and schematics
Preferred Skills
Controls experience using dSpace, MatLab, Python, LabView, or Simulink software packages
Experience with early development product assembly and product evolution processes
Experience with continuous improvement and quality problem resolution processes
Experience with product assembly documentation and drawing structures
Electrical troubleshooting competence
