Department Overview
Power Generation operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation, and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for our customers. Our nearly 900 coworkers are dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective generation to California in an environmentally responsible manner. Our hydro facilities include 62 conventional hydro powerhouses, a pumped-storage facility, 98 reservoirs, 168 dams and more than 200 miles of canals and flumes, among other water conveyances. Natural gas-fired plants in operation are Humboldt Bay Generating Station in Eureka; Colusa Generating Station in Colusa County and Gateway Generating Station in Antioch. Several utility-scale solar generation plants also are operated and maintained, as well as PG&E’s successful entry into battery energy storage, our Elkhorn Battery facility at Moss Landing in Monterey County.
Position Summary
The GIS Technical Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the Hydro GIS Database system design, development, integration, and maintenance. This role performs a wide variety of tasks from business-based support of GIS, advanced technical analysis, data analytics, report creation and project management functions.
This position will be headquartered in either Oakland or Auburn. This will be agreed upon by the successful candidate and hiring leader.
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and assigned location based on business needs.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $ 102,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $ 162,000.00
OR
Minimum Base Salary (California) $ 97,000.00
Maximum Base Salary (California) $ 154,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Provide advanced user support and data integration.
- Develop and perform advanced data gathering, data integration, and quality control procedures for geospatial data, interface with data source systems to resolve complex issues; estimate impact of data issues to compliance and business commitments.
- Identify user quality control, support, and data integration process improvement opportunities, gather input and agreement on new requirements and lead implementation, communication, and training around process revisions/changes.
- Lead special projects related to GIS.
- Create and update metadata and catalog GIS layers, including documenting workflow procedures for staff using GIS, both in the office and in the field.
- Support advanced enterprise GIS data modeling and data capture initiatives, develop and review software functionality requirements.
- Lead GIS software, hardware and database projects and initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with other work groups and vendors, troubleshoot issues, produce technical communication.
- Lead projects and efforts related to opportunities for improvement in the way work is done, share expertise and lessons learned.
- Accurately identify Safety Critical Elements.
- Work with stakeholders to process data, analyze data and identify trends, patterns, and insights.
- Extract and integrate data from various sources to create reports and dashboards in a clear and concise manner.
- Assist in developing and implementing data collection processes and procedure.
- Assist as needed with system administration functions for other tools and applications utilized by group.
- Travel will be required and will be based on business needs.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent relevant experience
- 5 years of experience with GIS applications.
- 3 years of experience in the utility industry.
- 3 years of experience in ArcGIS 9.x or later.
Desired:
- Certified GIS Professional.
- Project Management, Integrity Management and Risk Management experience.
- Advanced Proficiency in ArcGIS 9.x or later.
- Advanced Proficiency in ArcGIS Online Mobile Applications (ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123)
- Mastery / In-depth expertise in Microsoft Access, Oracle, or SQL server databases; ability to write, analyze, and maintain complex SQL queries and stored procedures.
- Proficiency in Power Automate, Power Apps, Power Bi, Excel.
- Proficiency in a programming language –Shell script, Python, or Visual Basic.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with other technology workers and business customers.
- Demonstrated ability to continue to learn new skills and willingness to share knowledge with others.
- Ability to express complex concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing to diverse groups of people
- Safety record demonstrating safety is a priority for self and team.
