Responsible for assisting in development, oversight and performance of professional level duties related to the development and implementation of systems, networks, databases and macros to create, maintain, display and update a County-wide government geographic information system (GIS).
- Designs, develops, implements, coordinates and maintains internal technical standards associated with spatial data and GIS technology in cooperation with other management and staff.
- Assists and mentors' staff in developing and managing databases related to spatial data and administers GIS datasets for use in maintaining a comprehensive geographic system for the County and local agencies.
- Oversees GIS workload and concerns; assigns work to other staff as required.
- Develops and implements custom GIS applications to ensure query capability and data access to various GIS layers.
- Develops tools to automate input data processes and performs data edits as necessary to maintain highly accurate data.
- Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves GIS database discrepancies, applies corrections as necessary, and identifies data improvements to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data and GIS products in accordance with established standards.
- Creates and maintains necessary documentation for the GIS system, user-training materials and manuals.
- Performs a variety of analytical studies related to the development and implementation of the GIS system, evaluates alternatives, makes recommendations and prepares technical reports.
- Conducts presentations to other individuals or departments regarding the use of the GIS system, explains necessary hardware and software requirements to use the system may provide user training as needed.
- Keeps abreast of advancements in the field of GIS, attends training sessions and seminars as appropriate to maintain advanced technical expertise.
- Evaluates potential fit and impacts of new advancements in the GIS system; provides recommendations for adoption and/or procurement based on analysis.
- Works with aerial photography and/or satellite imagery.
- Conducts analysis, Geo-registration, and other imager processing services.
- Maintains accurate records, drawings and files related to assigned activities.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a team. Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Planning, conducting, coordinating and implementing complex GIS conversion projects for various County departments and other local agencies.

- Instructing non-technical users in work procedures.
- Analyzing user systems and developing and programming applications to meet those needs.
- Preparing clear and concise program documentation and user procedures.
- Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in geography, or a closely related field; AND five (5) years of professional level experience in developing and implementing automated geographic information systems; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
Nevada Driver's License.
