Straughan is currently seeking a talented and motivatedGIS Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate is a problem-solver that thrives while working in a fast-paced team setting. Strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both speech and writing are a must. In addition, candidates must be self-motivated and able work in a multi-disciplinary, environmentally conscious, team environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Identifies, creates, collects, converts, integrates, and manages geospatial datasets and metadata on multiple simultaneous projects.
• Analyzes technical problems and devises new approaches and alternative solutions
• Develops or maintains GIS applications using a combination of GIS software, web-based development tools, and/or Windows development tools
• Processes and analyzes raster and vector geospatial data in support of clients and staff including engineers, environmental scientists, and planners
• Creates scripts/models/macros in multiple platforms, especially Python using the ArcPy suite of tools
• Create and disseminate production workflow documents, including GIS-based technical documentation
• Technical lead on the development of field data collection applications, which includes identifying and learning new data collection products as they become available
• Coordination of geospatial data across platforms (desktop, tablet, GPS receivers, etc.)
• Assists with the preparation of reports, graphics, tables, and map figures to support environmental impact studies, NEPA studies, and technical reports for projects. Conducts peer reviews of these products.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field
• A minimum of six years’ experience including experience in the preparation of GIS products, all ESRI GIS software products, in addition to open source tools
• In-depth knowledge of ESRI’s software, including ArcGIS 10.X, ArcGIS Online and/or Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Collector for ArcGIS, and Survey123 for ArcGIS, especially as it relates to custom surveys using XLSForms
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, especially with CAD-GIS interoperability (ArcGIS for AutoCAD 370 and above)
• Strong technical writing skills, specifically as they pertain to GIS-based processes
• Knowledge of cartography, coordinate systems, map projections, and topology
• Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access)
• Ability to perform work outside under variable terrain and weather conditions
• Strong verbal, organizational and written communication skills
• Ability to work across multiple projects simultaneously and in an organized fashion
Desirable Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Geography, GIS, or related field
• Any of the following certifications: GISP, PMP, AICP
• Experience with GIS-based business development and proposal writing
• Experience and interest in emerging technologies
• Drone piloting and sensor data collection and manipulation experience (Section 107 license especially helpful)
• Experience working with local governments and Maryland DOT projects
• Experience working with LiDAR (aerial, mobile or terrestrial) and DEM creation
• Experience in programming languages such as Python, SQL, VB, .NET and/or Java
• Ability to perform hydraulic and hydrologic modelling (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, TR-20, TR-55, GISHydro)
• Experience with environmental regulations, permitting, and policy such as NEPA, Clean Water Act, Section 4(f)/6(f), etc.
