Position Title: Learning and Evaluation Analyst
Department: Policy, Advocacy, and Impact
Reports to: Senior Advisor - Learning and Evaluation

Position Summary: As a Learning and Evaluation Analyst at KABOOM!, you will work to establish a data-informed, learning-focused approach to advancing KABOOM!’s mission of ending playspace inequity through the analysis of research, data, and other information. You will support KABOOM!’s efforts to map gaps in playspace equity and efforts to measure the short- and long-term outcomes that result from new playgrounds. You will assist KABOOM! staff and external research consultants to expand the organization’s capacity to measure the effectiveness of its work and to advocate for increased investment in closing the playspace inequity gap.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Generate reports (through Salesforce and other systems) summarizing the number of completed builds and youth potentially served for various time periods.
  • Maintain and update summary data for all playgrounds (location, playspace inequity score, number of children served, number of children living within 15 minute walk of playground location, etc.)
  • Maintain, coordinate, and administer KABOOM! ongoing survey efforts to include field data collection, data input and cleaning, data analysis, and report preparation.
  • Aggregate and summarize publicly available data on various neighborhood indicators (income, health conditions, etc.).
  • Support the development and implementation of organizational outcomes, community surveys, and logic models.
  • Generate maps for national, state, and local identification of potential playground build locations/areas using mySidewalk.
  • Develop and update playspace inequity maps for 50 largest metro areas in the United States, as well as for KABOOM! identified priority cities and counties throughout the nation.
  • When provided by local partners, assist with the cleaning and mapping of playground location and playground quality data.
  • Provide survey design and data collection support for KABOOM! staff. Includes visiting playgrounds locally (and potentially other cities) to conduct observations of playground use and playground quality.
  • Act as KABOOM! representative on measurement and Evaluation in relevant industry/field spaces including peer networks, conferences, and government meetings.
  • Conduct literature reviews of play and recreation research, as well as related topics such as the connection between playgrounds and physical activity and mental health.
  • Support fundraising / development efforts. Includes supporting proposal writing, identifying potential priority areas for projects, supporting asks/requests, etc. Also includes drafting (and updating) language to create cases for support for all measurement and Evaluation work.
  • Support communications team and thought leadership team. Includes: developing standard language that can be used in communications and thought leadership materials, generating content for presentations and communications content (blogs, social media, etc.), presenting at conferences (or supporting those who present regularly).
Education and Experience Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (degrees in government, public policy, geography/GIS, sociology a plus)
  • 3 years relevant professional experience in program planning, monitoring and Evaluation, youth development, or research practices. OR
  • Master’s Degree (degrees in evaluation, statistics, government, public policy, geography/GIS sociology a plus) AND at least 1-year relevant professional experience in program planning, monitoring and Evaluation, youth development, or research practices.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite. Strong Excel skills and competency required.
  • Familiarity with US Census, American Community Survey, and similar publicly available datasets.
  • Interest in learning (or some experience with) open-source mapping software, GIS tools and geospatial technologies.
  • Naturally curious, action-oriented, and self-motivated.
  • Must show initiative, self-motivation, and ability to adapt quickly and easily to changing organizational needs. Demonstrated ability to proactively identify issues/problems and recommend solutions.
  • Experience communicating effectively and working with a diverse set of technical and non-technical counterparts and stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service and problem-solving skills. Ability to interact with leadership, government officials, the general public, and military audiences at a variety of levels with integrity and professionalism.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment related to controversial and/or culturally sensitive subjects. Ability to handle confidential information with tact and poise.

Salary: $61,000.00 - $70,000.00
