Job Description


AECOM
has an opening for an experienced Geologist in our Austin, Houston, or Dallas, Texas offices to assist with a variety of projects including data management, site investigations and remediation. The successful candidate will assist with gathering and analyzing geological, hydrogeological and geochemical data in both the field and office settings. The field activities will consist of soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air and soil vapor sample collection, geological logging and interpretation, and the oversight of subcontractors including laboratories and excavation and drilling companies. The office activities will involve preparation of investigation reports and providing support to junior to mid-level staff on projects. Will involve being a task manager including overseeing one or more persons on field activities and supporting project managers.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support a wide range of Environmental Investigation and remediation projects under CERCLA, RCRA, and Texas jurisdictions.
  • Contribute directly to the preparation and review of technical project deliverables (e.g., work plans, remedial investigations, and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments).
  • Conduct soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion sampling.
  • Contribute on projects regarding technical approach, numerical analysis, cost estimation, planning, design, scheduling, quality control, and safety.
  • Job duties will involve both field work and office assignments with occasional overnight travel required.
  • Developing clear and defensible conceptual site models (CSMs) for complex sites.
  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.
  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
  • Understanding of CERCLA, RCRA, state regulations, and waste management requirements.
  • Developing UFP QAPP and other Federal project documents.
  • Evaluating complex environmental data sets, including the use of modeling and statistics.
  • Preparing, work plans, and technical reports, and presentations for technical meetings with clients and regulators.
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
  • Actively communicating with the technical team and Project Manager.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's in geology, hydrogeology, or a related field and 4+ years of relevant environmental remediation experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • US Citizen/Permanent Resident.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant environmental remediation experience
  • 4+ years of task management/project management experience.
  • Registered Geologist license.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Business or proposal development experience.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
  • Experience with developing CSMs and preparing remediation strategies.
  • Experience completing contaminant fate and transport evaluation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments is a plus.
  • Experience developing contaminated media management plans.
  • Knowledge of vapor, stormwater, sediment, drilling, soil, and groundwater sampling methods.
  • Environmental compliance experience including:
  • NPDES permitting and compliance
  • RCRA – waste classification, management, and reporting
  • SPCC Plans
  • EPCRA – inventory evaluation, Tier II and Form R reporting
  • Experience developing and preparing reports for submittal and acceptance for technical clients and regulators.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clients and project team.
  • Ability to write and review complex technical documents, perform high level review and strategy.
  • Ability to prepare graphics and reports that present complex technical matter in a clear and concise manner.
  • Attention to detail and a thorough approach to work.
  • Ability to multitask and have strong communication skills.
  • Organized and able to work within a team of technical experts.
  • Able to work well in a team setting.
  • Learn and develop a keen understanding of hazard recognition.
  • Ability to travel up to 20% to regional job sites.
  • Computer proficient in a variety of statistical programs helpful.
  • Computer proficient in MS Office programs.

Additional Information

  • Exempt Position: Offered rate of compensation for Texas will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $100,000.
